It’s a great place with peaceful vibrations, beautiful sights on the sea and the bays of the coast, silent and holy. The white pagoda is stunning against the sky and sea colour and Buddha’s story is represented and shortly explained through golden statues displayed around the first floor. Highly recommended. Before arriving private parkings will tell you to leave your motorbike there and pay, but if you ignore them and go ahed till the end of the road, you will be able to park for free.

A picturesque pagoda atop a hill just west of Unawatuna. Nothing exceptional just a white stupa, good views and a small temple on site. Very restful peaceful place. Inside the same complex just to the right of the pagoda is the small memorial to lives lost in the 2004 tsunami.

Situated on Rummasala Hill, it was built with the assistance of Japanese Buddhist monks in 2005 as part of a plan to build temples of peace in conflict zones. Japanese Peace Pagoda is situated in Rumassala in Unawatuna. It is run by a Japanese priest and is surrounded on either sides by the Jungle Beach and Unawatuna Beach.

This is an interesting religious site with lovely views of Galle bay. Unfortunately the weather was cloudy so we didn't see a good sunset but it was peaceful and nice to see anyway. Only major negative was the aggressive stray dogs that growled and barked at us on two separate occasions, completely unprovoked - be very careful around them, especially at sunset. Would definitely recommend getting a tuk tuk up the hill.

We called late afternoon to coincide with the funeral in UK of a recently deceased old friend and recall memories. The priest clearly understood our reason for visiting and was most sympathetic. Please tske time to visit and respect this serene and lovely place.

Beautifully constructed pagoda. Since the temple is closed to sea, temple is perfect spot to see evening sunset. There’s not much crowd. Japanese monks can speak fluent local language “Sinhala”.

Nice walk from Unawatuna, uneven and rocky at times, so go by tuk-tuk the long way around if you have mobility challenges.

Very peaceful as we were there early morning, had the place almost to ourselves.

Please do show respect, shoes off, a decent top on etc.

Not very far from Galle city and you can go there by a vehicle too. This is a nice place but better visit during evening. Then its less sunny and nice for photopgraphy too. Cloth wise no big restrictions but since its a temple better to ehere something decent.

Very nice and religious place with beautiful views. I recommend a walk along the gallery of the pagoda, soaking up the atmosphere, of course, bare feet.
Negative are only local residents who want a small contribution even for greeting.
I recommend a visit.
