The beach itself is just average. Some areas have lots of litter and trash on the shore. You can get great grilled fish in the area. Also they periodically have local ocean canoe races which are fun and is a fun party atmosphere. It's overall a fun place but it's not very pristine and located near a busy section of town.

Went out for some fun with my family and while waiting for our food we checked out the very few attractions...one really.
That was horse riding.
The food was okay but somewhat expensive...at least 2500cfa for a meal...no drinks included.

Ordinary open space near the ocean, with a sea food markets (grilled) and Fresh on the other side. Until you eat the food, you are not sure it is the best. If you are not too fussy about 'spotless cleanliness', you will like it. We particularly enjoyed the grilled prawns, and some fish. And walked to the fish market to look at the different species of sea food, and try out the well loved Pidgin 'englich' Not a very clean place though!

We went there 4 of us looking for a quiet place to seat down and enjoy our traditional “poisson braise” which is roasted fish. Arriving at down beach, we choose to go there because it was less stress to be surrounding by +5 guys trying to sell you their table and nearly beating you for.
The service was very good for a normal Cameroonian street restaurant and the bar. The problem came when we wanted to pay our roasted fish bill. Initially each plate costed 3.000FCFA (4,6€) including the fish and the complement (1 plate of cassava and 3 plates fry ripe plantain) for a total of 12.000FCFA (18,30€) for the group, which is very expensive dich a normal Cameroonian can just permit itself just little few time a year. When we wanted to pay, then the man told us we should pay an additional 1.000FCFA (1,52€) for each plate of ripe plantain. That was not the plan at the beginning. But for more than 15 min, he was arguing with one member of our group until I came down to ask what is wrong and the man started shouting on me. After like 3 min talking, I told him in life we need to recognize when we do wrong and move forward. I told him he did not mentioned that he will charge those extra plantain even he said he will taking from another seller. We accept to pay half of those extra and He should do the same, but the man refused categorically. I told him, I will write this review that can drive customer to his place, but the man was so focusing on his 1.000FCFA * 3 = 3.000FCFA (4,6€) that he did not want to listen me.
I will probably be coming end of August with 2 or 3 more people for tourism and probably I will have to talk to him and drive my people somewhere else letting him know that I am not coming to him anymore because of his lack of service the other day. May be in this way, he can understand that in life customer’s satisfaction is very important.
Such behaviors does not help the promotion of tourism in the country. I think it is time for our authorities managing the Tourism industry to take strict norms in order to regulate tourism services in touristic cities of the country, knowing that Limbe is one of them.

Food is good but this outdoor beach front eating needs to be more organized. I like the freshly prepared roasted fish, but the area needs to be properly cleaned and organized.

Down Beach is south of the harbour of Limbe, seperated from the harbour by a small cape. It consists of dozens of small huts, in every one stands a Mama and the daughters, while the boys are out fishing. Everywhere they sell roasted fish, which has just arrived from the sea.In some of the stands you'll get roasted sweet potatoes, plantains and other local vegetables and fruits. It certainly helps if you go there with a Cameroonian. The locals eat just with their hands, but they will find knives and forks for you, if you insist.
Unfortunately there are some shades over Limbe at the moment. My Cameroonian partner is Yaoundu, meaning she is from the tribe around the capital. She is easily recognized by her figure and her french accent, when she speaks English. Her parents have a well known shop in town.
Some time ago unrest exploded in Cameroon, the two northern provinces (les Anglophones) started protesting, feeling underrepresented in public jobs and politics.
Being in Germany at the moment I had heard about unrest in Cameroun from a colleague, and my partner called me in the evening saying there is a riot against les Francophones. According to local papers 8 people were killed by policemen/military, according to the protestors it was more like 30 people being shot. This was on a weekend End September/Beginning of October 2017.

This area has a sort of boardwalk that is great for sunset walks. There is a area of huts where fresh seafood is grilled. The area is a little dirty but for the area it is fine. The prices vary if you are a local or ex-pat. The fish is very spicy but I like that. There are even tables on the beach. It is well worth a visit if in town.

What I liked most was the rosted fish (burning fish in cameroonian english). It seems to be very popular and I met many other tourists who were having a good time just as I was doing. I will definitely eat there each time I ever travel to Limbe.

Hi all,

I have been in Limbe many times over the last years, my partner is a Cameroonian lady, we live outside Limbe in the 'Sonara' refinery area. Of course we go to Down Beach regularly to eat fresh fish - and I've never ever heard of any aggressions against non-Africans. There are dozens of little 'hut - type' restaurants where the lady of the house prepares fish and african style vegetables.
Bathroom facilities are available, but a bit dodgy

The beach is good but dirty due to the deposit brought by sea waves. The Limbe City Council or the power that be should do something.
