It's one of the first buildings designed by Gaudí, where he started to apply innovative solutions. The building hosts one of the most important private contemporary art collections, owned by Bassat. Worthwhile a visit.

Canvas by a single artist reflecting not only cubism but surrealism, oniric images, Miró style, Picasso figures, arlekins, city places, and all this inside a Gaudí bulding, which first purpose was industrial, and now works as and art exhibition center, ruled by Mataro public administration and Bassat Foundation. Close to train station, it’s free entry. Tuesday to Saturday, 17 to 20 h., weekends it’s open in the morfina. Monday closed. Kind people.

This is a lovely little building designed by Guadi and houses a small art exhibition. The art works were very interesting and entrance was free, but it can take lecithin a half an hour to go around it.

Despite a bad administration of the site, you can admire the most humble and first work of GAUDÍ.
Outside there is an unknown bathroom for the workers of the textile factory...

The museum is worth a visit. The architecture is interesting and the personal sculpture collection of Lluis Bassat and his wife exhibited is really interesting too. There is a short video which explains the history of the building and explains Gaudi's interest and reason for building at that point in time. The staff speak English. There is no entry fee and the brochures are informative. The outside area is spacious with an independent cafe situated on the corner so great to have a refreshment after/before a visit. Check the opening times. We went in the day and it was closed (only open Saturday and Sunday in the day (11- 2 pm) but went back in the evening (5 pm to 8 pm) . It is closed Mondays.

We had a marvellous guided tour round the building, at the weekly Fri evening English language tour (see tourist info for current times, cost, languages etc). We were the only two who pitched up so lovely personal event. Learned a lot about Gaudi, local industrial history, the cotton factory building which was his first commission etc, also about other Catalan modernist architecture, eg: Joseph Puigi i Cadafalch, who came from Mataro and has various extant buildings in town. Then moved onto the Bassat art collection the building houses, which currently has lots of 1980s informalist work on display. Had never even heard of this before so plenty to learn and think about. Tour guide very friendly and knowledgeable, genuinely passionate about Gaudi, modern art and his home town - he had all sorts of bits of info about the people and places the tour covered. All for €3 each. Brilliant.
