Lively, friendly, cultural capital city with some great bars/restaurants
Great little city, lots to see, churches, markets. marina, sea views, walks, museums, Gin factory … the tapas bars at the Fish market are a great way to try something different. Nice streets to stroll in between the bus station & the churches. Fab bars along the side of the harbour.

Good little town - beautiful scenery
There are steps or an elevator to the town top from the harbor where our ship was docked. There are some shops along the main thoroughfare, Moll de Ponent. This is where you find the gin shop. Sadly, I missed the opening time but there is a little bodega where you can buy gin and other liquors. We walked up the steps to the town which is easy to maneuver. Walked past many works of art along the plazas and found the Portal de Sant Roc. It has an inscription. There are also some nice spots to view the sea. There were some restaurants around town.

A beautiful small city with lots to see and do.
A great city to visit when in Menorca. We went on market day and it was a great atmosphere. We had a lovely walk around the shops and down to the harbour. Stunning views, beautiful buildings and a great boat trip finished off our visit.

One day is enough to visit
A typical old town, of which there are many. From the port where our ship stopped, we walked along the embankment to a tall glass building - this is a free elevator that takes you up to the city center. On the opposite side from the elevator is the tourist office, which opened at 10 am and we took a map of the city with an explanation of where to go and what to see. Along the embankment there are souvenir shops and a street clothing market. The city itself seemed a little boring, but with many shops for every taste. This brightened up our one-day visit.

Half a day visit to Mahon is sufficient to see the city, its yscht harbour and the Illa del Rei. The Hauser and Wirth gallery is really worth the trip. Takes approx 2 hours from the departure of the yello taxi boat at 7 euros and back. The gallery presents conteporary arrtworkd from reknown artists. The restaurant Cantina for a quick lunch or just a drink. For dinner, many restaurants around the harbour. Our favorite El Reis. For a longer stay in Menorca we highly recommend staying in Ciutadella which is mich more romantic with its pedestrian streets and nice shops. Closer to the top beaches of Turqueta and Maccarella

The hotel is very nice. Very clean, well presented, pleasant staff and ideal if you do not want the night club scene. There is a supermarket some 500 yds away and that is the nearest shop. Other shops can be found a little further out but the best way we found was to take the Landtrain that leaves the hotel on the half hour. For 7 euros its a bargain. Hop off at the shops hop back on later. ( just make a note of the time you get off in order to resume your journey) 100yards from the hotel is lift that takes you down to the harbour where there are pubs, cafe's and other eating places. If you like to watch the boats and let the time fly by this is the place to go to. Back to the hotel the meals are varied but were very seldom warm never mind hot. There is a good selection for both breakfast and the evening dinner. The staff are very keen to help but the English language knowledge is very limited but they do try to help. At this point due to the covid restrictions the desk staff helped me and my wife to sort out our tests and locater forms and even printed them off for us. Wherever you go in Mahon there are hundreds of steps so if you are not so surefooted you have been warned.

Didn’t find the port to be very interesting generally. It is obviously a commercial operation with a fair few privately owned small to medium sized boats moored along the southern side. Glass bottomed boat tours of the port are available for 15 euros per head and the Xoriguer distillery lies beneath the imposing clifftop facade of the Museo de Minorca. There are several mirador viewpoints from the top of the cliffs overlooking the port itself which give a much better understanding of the layout. A walkway runs for miles around the southern side and can be done in stages with stops for refreshment on the way.

For me, the port of Mahón is the point of greatest interest in this city. It is the second largest natural harbor in the world after Pearl Harbor in Hawaii, and the largest in Europe.
To get to know the capital of Menorca, in my opinion, it is necessary to explore its port by boat, knowing at least its size, its interesting islands and the municipality with which it shares the port of Mahón, which is the municipality of Castell.
You come into contact with the legacy left by the different cultures that have passed through the city of Mahón, in addition to witnessing the strategic place in which you are located, and you can see the exceptional historical heritage it has and the impressive image of the city old town of Mahón on top of the cliff.
Therefore, it is much more than a simple port, which gives a unique character to this Mediterranean city.

We went there around 10 p.m. and what a pleasant surprise.

Very lively city center, good crowds.

Very beautiful and atypical city center.

We were able to attend a flamenco concert at the bend of a small alley.

Pescado market open very late + night market very good atmosphere.

The port of Mahon is beautiful and covers a vast area (it isn’t just the harbour in the town itself). If you do visit Mahon for the day then taking a boat trip around the port is a must. If you are visiting for more than a day then take a walk from where you get on the boats along the water’s edge to the area/resort known as “Port Mahon “ which is where we stayed for a week. This is a lovely stroll and you can admire some fabulous yachts and stop for lunch at one of the many waterside restaurants along the way. Please do me aware though that the walk up from the harbour into Mahon town is very steep and not for the faint hearted!

This was unexpectedly spectacular. The bluffs between the high and lower city sections could not have more impressive. Everything was so clean and well maintained so as to make this the pristine jewel that it is.

How lucky were we, to have this beautiful view upon arrival and departure from the port.

The port of Mahon is very beautiful and full of history. Nearby, the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea meet. There are mini cruises of 1 hour by boat where guides tell us the history of this port where there are many historical places such as the fortress of Isabelle or the village of Es Castell.
