This is a very beautiful and pleasingly modest 16th century church, not at all ostentatious like so many Catholic churches are. From the outside one is struck by how lovingly well maintained it is, sporting a bright new coat of paint during my visit in mid-April 2024. I had read that the church is famous for its detailed portico (the one on the gable, not the one on its side) and I did find it quite stunning in its imagery and craftsmanship.

The modest yet beautiful and dignified theme continues in the church’s interior. It is not large and there is not much to take up your time, but even if you are not religiously minded (like me), do have a quiet look around and respectfully peer at the interesting tile panels on both sides of the main altar, and perhaps leave a euro or two in contribution to the restoration fund of this lovely historical building.

This is a place of worship, of sanctuary, prayer and reflection. The building itself has recently undergone painting and looks magnificent, especially against a clear blue sky. Inside the church the air is cool and the atmosphere peaceful. We met with a lovely lady whom we believe to be one of the custodians. She was welcoming, informative and told us of the new priest. We were staying in a nearby apartment and delighted to hear the chime of the church bell.

In the hussle and bustle of everyday life and the vibrant tourist trade, to take a little time to visit the church, sit, pray and reflect is a blessing and an uplifing experience.

This church is one if the most beautiful churches I have ever been in. Mass is said in English on Saturday evenings and Portuguese on Sunday mornings. Went only to the masses said in English for the two weeks we were there. A lovely priest I have to say. Because we were there in August I had to bring a fan with me to cool myself down at the evening mass as it was still very hot outside. But I have to say well worth the visit.

On my last visit to Alvor I attended Mass in this beautiful Church . I am a protestant Lay preacher but my belief is that we all need A House of God whatever our denomination to rest and reflect or just meditate . I look forward to my next visit .

It is a lovely church inside, and the outside is very pretty with it's courtyard and large flowering trees and it's painted yellow and white. Cannot wait to get married there next year.

In all the years of coming to Alvor, I have greatly enjoyed an hour or so, without my family and friends. To just come and reflect, appreciate my life and say a few prayers. I am really not that religious in the UK, but somehow get enthralled in this beautiful church. I have previously caught a service, with full choir (this moved me so much I burst into tears, not even understanding the words) Sitting peacefully in the square in front of the church, makes me feel emotional. I look forward greatly to re-visiting Church of Divino Salvador, in July when myself and family are due to return
