Beautiful place to enjoy winter walks close to the beach
This was our first trip to the Algarve and Alvor did not disappoint. Access to the boardwalk was directly from the back of our hotel. What a beautiful place to enjoy warm winter walks - we walked along it every day we went towards the town or to walk across the cliffs to the next resort. Great views and you can continue on your the nature reserve to see local wildlife although we didn’t venture that far. We used it in the evenings to access local restaurants dotted along the back of the beach but there is no lighting so had to watch our step but were gifted the light of a full moon and there’s a sports centre near the town end so their floodlights helped to guide us. We walked along another boardwalk where they had solar lights - this would be a great bonus for Alvor.

    We loved Alvor
We visited Alvor twice during our one week holiday, the first time by walking from Portimao. It’s a lovely place with good restaurants and the boardwalk experience was great for bird watching. Returned by car (free parking) before the end of our holiday to explore the town. It was our first holiday in The Algarve and we would certainly consider staying in Alvor next time.

    Fantastic walk near the beach
Myself and my wife wandered down to Lagos and came across this wonderful walkway. We walked along the wooden walkway and stop for an ice cream at a café. We continued walking onto the beach and then left towards the harbour. What a fantastic idea the walkway was a credit to the local area.

….. excellent walk. What a great place to stroll and watch the wildlife and birds in the dunes and in the bay. The Boardwalk allows everyone to enjoy this special natural area and also has access to some very nice beach restaurants. I think we visited the beach and boardwalk on most of the days we stayed in Alvor and were never disappointed at the variety of birds to watch. On two occasions, whilst we ate lunch, we were treated to the sight of Dolphins playing (or fishing, lol!!) in the bay too.

A good walk or comfortably by bicycle. It is a wooden fence of good width. It runs more or less parallel to the sea line, and paths lead out to the sea every few meters. There is an area where you see the water of the marshes full of people doing Kay.
It's not a very long walk either and you can even go barefoot.

The Alvor boardwalk is a superb way to walk from one end of Alvor right to the edge of town. It carries you above the dunes so that you can see and appreciate them without damaging them. It’s wheelchair friendly with slopes at intervals which lead right down on to the sand and then join up with wheelchair friendly boards actually on the sand.
At the moment there are signs telling people to walk on the right and keep distance plus foot operated hand sanitising machines - all very efficient.
It’s a lovely place for an early morning run / walk. Plus super sunset views.

This is lovely route to walk both on wooden paved routes as well on the beach. We have visited the site many years for a walk. We saw few birds, far away, because there were too many water and other dogs running around loose. We then did bird watching tours elsewhere. Anyway, great for pedestrians. And BTW we don't have anything against dogs.

It's not a walk i would recommend to a walking impared person. It needs signs showing the kilometres to the harbour at intervals togive you hope. There are places to stop for drinks and food.
Hats and suncream a must.

Loved it. Walked it a couple of times and jogged it twice. Beautiful. Scenic. Refreshing.
Lovely to jog out along the boards and back along the beach.
Watch the stone walk out to the lighthouse looking structures at the end as sudden holes in the wall. Fine if you look where you are going but be careful with children on it. Ours is a bit clumsy!

Just loved this! Wonderful way to walk along the dunes/coast without damaging the local habitat. Sea on one side and dunes or estuary on the other side. Great to see the birds whose habitat it is.
Good for a strenuous walk or run, but also really pleasant for a relaxing stroll in the sunshine, stopping off at the many lovely beachfront bars and restaurants along the way. A lovely way to spend a sunny Sunday, knowing the weather back home is cold, wet and windy. 🤪

Early in the morning, Alvor Boardwalk is a lovely place - salt flats, sand dunes, and the beach all in one short walk. Once the sun is high, the boardwalk gets hot (even in March). Bring water, wear sturdy shoes, and don't forget your camera!
