Flat walk out across the salt marshes and sand-dunes on wooden decking and footpaths. Didn't see a lot of wildlife but maybe that was due to the time of year that I visited (Nov/Dec) Much of this walk would be suitable for wheelchair users. The...More

We walked from the harbour to the Pestana Praia and it was on a wonderful wooden boardwalk and has a number of small eating places along its length. To be recommended!

Lovely place to walk along all the way to the Breakwaters! Plenty of good view points and places to sit. The walk is kept clean and well maintained. Very popular with tourists and locals.

Loved our walk on the boardwalk...Great idea that preserves the dunes which run parallel to it.various channels run off it so you can go for a long walk or a short one, the choice is yours

Although there are short sections that are not boarded it is relatively easy to navigate. Signage from the centre could be better though.

This is a walk through sand dunes, you can walk up as far as the lighthouse or just loop back to either the beach, bars, Carpark or main town at numerous points. Lovely walk in the early evening after cocktails and before food used by...More

I have been coming to Alvor for years and never knew this was here! Really nice walk on the boardwalks starting from the car park beside fishing huts. Excellent beach access or just walk for miles and enjoy the views.

Great to stroll/run along listening to the crashing waves. It’s about 1km in length with cafe/restaurant towards each end.

Please can you advise roughly how long it takes to walk/stroll along the Alvor boardwalk and what's the best time of day to do this? Are there any recommendations for a "pit stop" maybe half way or at the end for a nice spot of lunch or a refresher? Many thanks

The boardwalk is not THAT long. It's maybe 2 or 3 miles at most. There are a couple of places you can stop and sit down along the way, but if you're looking for a "pit stop" where you can have lunch or a refresher, Restinga Restaurant, which is at the end of the 'inhabited' part of the Alvor beach is the only real option. .

You need to get to Alvor Harbour front. There is a nice promenade to walk along, at the far end of the promenade you will find some fishermans huts the start of the boardwalk is at the end of the huts. Easily spotted once there. It takes you right out to the start of the estuary but there are few ' junctions' that if you took them you would come to the beach front. If you do a search on google maps satellite view you will get an idea of the land/estuary layout. ( the boardwalk may not be...More

Yes, there are a few seats at various points along the boardwalk. Not that many, though.
