- Carnet D4 contributionsWorth the stopWorth while the extra km if you are on the way. Amazing view. Impressive to watch the glacier so close. The view of the fjord is pretty unique. The drive is on a pretty good road, you may be careful as there are lots of buses going up and down but they know how to drive on such winding roads. From the entrance (toll to pay) is only 5km.Visited June 2024Traveled with familyWritten June 29, 2024
- McJx3Wellington, New Zealand117 contributionsAn absolute highlight of our week in NorwayThere is a ticket counter so expect to pay to go up the road. This has the benefit of keeping the numbers down and also staggering the traffic. The views are mind blowing. It’s absolutely worth the effort! There is a cafe and gift shop and lots of toilets. Was busy but didn’t feel too crowdedVisited July 2024Traveled with familyWritten July 28, 2024
- lexmillerBurlington, Massachusetts1,157 contributionsA must - fingers crossed you won't be in the clouds and have no viewWhen in Geiranger, this is something that you simply must do, and hope for the best as far as the cloud level. Because even if you get to the absolute top and you have no view at all (which was our case, we saw nothing but the inside of the cloud bank), the ride up and the first stop, are terrific. The first viewpoint on the way up gave us absolutely amazing views of the fjord, so gorgeous. Back on the bus, got to the top, and the clouds blocked everything. We booked online, and the trip is called "Highlight Dalsnibba Public Bus". Specific directions as to the meeting point are given, all went perfectly. The driver was a true professional as the road to the top is long and filled with switchbacks. The road up is beautiful, extremely scenic, beautiful towns and buildings here and there, gorgeous. From sea level, you can look up at Dalsnibba and actually see the Skywalk jutting out if you know what you're looking for, as it is just a speck - I know this, as a few hours AFTER our trip to the top, the clouds lifted and lo and behold, there was the Skywalk, but we were no longer on the top to see the view down, and looking up at it was not nearly as dramatic, lol!Visited July 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten August 10, 2024
- Vanja HSkane County, Sweden72 contributionsViewOnce on top there were a lot of tourists and buses, so have plenty of time. There is a viewpoint but also stairs down on the cliffs that you can safely stand on. Shop is available with souvenirs and super tasty coffee. Highly recommended.Visited August 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten August 14, 2024
- Wolfgang S10 contributionsImpressive outlookIt’s been a rather rainy day. But still we did hope for a fantastic view. And we were not disappointed. A challenging drive up on the toll road and strong winds were the circumstances that prevented a longer stay up there but also the fact that the cafe was closed. View down to Gairanger and the fjord were shadowed by the weather but still very impressive. And a good view to the glacier on the opposite mountain range. Paid 170 NOK for the car (have credit card or cash for the automated toll barrier ready). Well worth it.Visited August 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten August 26, 2024
- David A2 contributionsExcellent Trip !Breath-taking coach ride up to magnificent mountain top. Not to be Missed. Mountain geology very different, unlike the Alps or Pyrenees. Round weathered rocks. Minor warning, worst cafe ever ! ( Ha Ha )Visited September 2024Traveled with friendsWritten September 9, 2024
- Kate790 contributionsGreat views - strong windsThe place offers really impressive views of the area plus the drive up and down is an adventure in itself. Beware of super strong winds at the top, so warm jackets and gloves are recommended if you venture in autumn. With a bit of luck and sun you will enjoy the visit - for those who feel cold there is a cafe where you can have hot beverages before getting back on the road.Visited September 2024Traveled with familyWritten September 11, 2024
- hans-jaguarSanta Comba Dao, Portugal24,485 contributionsCircuit in Norway.Europe’s highest fjord view by road – 1500 meter On our circuit in Norway we had also a stopover at the “Geiranger skywalk” at first you have a ride up and this via a road that is well littered with hairpin bends, this was a beautiful ride and above all a good bus driver. The Skywalk opened in the year 2016. Thanks to its ingenious floor surface and glass guard Geiranger Skywalk gives you a sensation of floating! With a clear drop of approx. 500 m, you can enjoy magnificent views of Geiranger and Blåbreen glacier.Visited August 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten September 25, 2024
- Maria Solange OFarroupilha, RS31,216 contributionsMirante with toll!To access the Skywalk Dalsnibba viewpoint, a toll fee of 330 NOK is required. The view to the fjord is fabulous. This fjord is the tallest in Europe. The viewpoint is safe, there is cafeteria, shop and bathrooms. I don't know if it works in winter, because the road is pretty winding and narrow.Visited September 2024Traveled with familyWritten October 10, 2024

We've been to Dalsnibba twice during our summer vacation. To get there you need to pay a toll (190 NOK for cars if I am not mistaken) and drive around 2 kms to the top. The view is very nice on your way up but Dalsnibba faces mostly the Geiranger fjord.
The first time we went there the weather was quite bad, rainy & windy so we didn't understand much. We appreciated a bit of the foggy view and the effort put into the construction of the place (it's metallic terrace/grid).
Two days later when we got back the sun was up and the skies were clear. The whole experience flipped 180 - it is a truly amazing view.
The souvenir shop next to the terrace shares the same beautiful views where you can drink a coffee and try their freshly cooked pastries - we tried the cinammon buns and they were delicious!

It took us a long time to climb the steep, narrow road to this observation deck, but the views were worth it. I was surprised that even tourist buses climb here. In August the temperature here was +7 and windy, take warm clothes with you. Although you can warm up in the gift shop, it is quite large. There are free toilets. Large parking for cars. The lift is paid, in 2023 it was approximately 30 euros.

At 1500 metres the highest observation point above a fjord in Europe. The 1500 metre (vertical journey took 45 minutes each way as our coach driver expertly navigated the narrow roads, heavy traffic, innumerable hairpin bends and switchbacks. The views on top are spectacular – quite breath-taking, and the ride up and down is exhilarating as the coach climbs higher and the only view outside of the coach window looking down is a lot of air.

This is a must. The view is incredible, both on the way up and from the viewpoint. We arrived in the evening (full light of course) and the sun, when it came out from behind the clouds, just made the whole thing breathtaking.
Please note: you have to pay to get to the viewpoint. I don't know if it's like that always or just because we arrived sort of post tourist season (end of August) - but there is no one at the checkpoint and you have to pre-pay online and scan the ticket. The problem? There is no mobile connection whatsoever when you get there. We had to go down until we got reception, and then come back. So do that ahead of time to save the hassle.

It's about a 30 minute drive up the mountain to get to the top. Along the way the views are spectacular. It starts off with green scenery and as you ascend you start seeing more snow. One mile up there is a lake that was still frozen. We also came across a few waterfalls. When you reach the top you get a a whole view of the fiord. This is part of the UNESCO World Heritage site. At the top they have bathrooms and a souvenir shop.

What an experience. The way up with steep slopes, cliffs and snow mixed along the way. Drive up through the clouds and arrive at a fantastic view.
You become speechless, and go on the skywalk and look down a couple of hundred meters.
Don't be put off by the cost of driving up. A bit expensive for RVs though

We went in late may and it was spectacular particularly due to the snow. Best to go early morning if you can before the coaches arrive. The fee is something like 230 kr but well worth it. I believe the road opens with a barrier attendant from 9.30 but there is an auto payment gismo that gives you access before then.

It is strange to be charged just to drive up a hill, but perhaps that's why Norway has a successful economy. The view from the top is amazing and is just about worth the cost. The so-called Skywalk however is pathetic. It consists of a couple of metres of metal grid projecting from the rock face. I suffer from vertigo but it didn't even make me fell queasy.

We came here to experience the amazing views from Dalsnibba. The trip up is on a narrow and twisting road but there are some very nice views along the way. The last bit is a toll road to reach the summit. There is a visitor center and you can walk around easily and admire the views. The day we visited there were a lot of clouds but we were able to see the Geiranger Fjord, which was beautiful. You can also see part of the Balbreen glacier and a beautiful glacial lake. I would definitely try to come here if you have good weather when you visit Geiranger.

Est-ce possible de monter à pied via un sentier de randonnée? Sinon, est-ce trop dangereux de prendre la route à pied?

Ciao a tutti! Grazie a tutti..

Hola, tenemos intención de ir a primeros de Mayo a Geiranger. La duda es si estará abierta la carretera en ésas fechas o en que fecha se puede consultar el estado de la misma.
Muchas gracias.

Hi, My plan will go to Geiranger on Mid April. Is it possible to drive the car to Dalsnibba and take the cruise as well? I will stay Geiranger for one day. Or can I drive from Hellsylt and take ferry toGeiranger ? I am confused about the winter closed road.
Written August 29, 2018
Hi Nusra
Geiranger is one of the many paradise on earth
Each year there is a run/cycling/jogging from centrum and up to Dalsnibba
I will recommend the ferry from Hellesylt-geiranger
That is a beautiful cruise itself
Yes April is to soon up last part to Dalsnibba since winter closed
Sadly

How do we get to the pick up point when on a cruise
Written August 13, 2018
It couldn't be easier! If you're docked, simply walk down the pier towards the main building. The tour group's building is the small separate grey building to the right (right next to the restrooms). If you're tendering in, you're going you'll come to the same pier as the docked ships...so walk down the same pier and head to the same building on the right. Good Luck!!

What group did you book with for this? thanks, Joan
