Hot natural baths, incredible!

Go in the evening, it's gorgeous. We almost had the larger pool to ourselves. The water is very warm and we felt like we'd had a massage afterwards, totally relaxed. To find them put 'Bagno Grande i Vasconi'into Google maps as they're not really signed. There is parking 3 minutes walk away from the 2 larger pools.

Good to visit

We were staying in a Villa with a pool. We chose a wet cool day to venture down the hill to the baths. Good to see but don't worry if you don't get here. We were very lucky and had it to ourselves. Walk past the first small one to the second larger one. The temp of the water is amazing.

Great visit

The architecture of ancient baths is always fascinating to me. These are easily accessible to visit as one wanders through town as they are located in the Piazza della Repubblica. Don't miss it.

Genuine natural spa experience

Just downhill from the center of town is a parking lot, from which you can easily walk to the baths. You'll come across the first pool quickly, but continue down the dirt road (picnic tables will be to your right) and follow as it curves to the left. Here you will come upon a cluster of about 3 pools, with clear, warm water. Very rustic and charming. The stroll from the parking lot to the baths will only take 15-20 minutes and is very pretty. Bring lunch and towels and have a blissful afternoon!

improved access

i have previously reviewed the Great Bath and the good news is that there is now a car park half way down the road to the bath. This cuts out the steep climb on the way back and is a most welcome improvement. Take care, trafic beyond the parking is limited to locals and this is enforced. the bath itself hasn't changed in 2000 years and is a blissful temperature. the gravel bottom is a little rough on the feet, but this is not a problem. There is a nice picnic area nearby, we find it nice to stop there for lunch after our morning soak in the bath.

The genuine Etruscan/Roman bathing experience + nice walk
Sep 2016 • Couples
If you want to feel what it was like to walk from Rome to find a hot thermal healing spa- then this is the place. Nothing 'sensational' and that it the whole point- the old stone baths cut in the rock are exactly as they would have been centuries ago - and it is all for free- unlike the expensive Fontaverde Spa up the road!

Go early or late pm and enjoy a healing soal, listening to the birds. Love it.

Once we arrived after walking for 15 minutes we enjoyed it with the entire family. Water is around 40 degrees celsius. It's a local hangout point.

We were there in early August 2016 and the basin was empty, clean but try. There are construction works very close so the flow and bathing may hopefully resume soon.

I am sure this would be "very good" if it worked.

Do not worry, keep walking on the clear dirt road that drops down from the entrance of the village to here. It then starts climbing gently right past this bath, winds up a couple turns to your left then gets you to a combination of three large basins with similarly warm water, similarly open to free use and almost well kept - the main exception a dozen cigarette butts, which counts as spanky clean where I come from.

Hard to find and not as sensational as we had hoped

I love thermal baths/warm mineral springs. This one required a long drive followed by a very long walk as we were misdirected by well-intentioned locals sending us to different spas around the town. There were no signs. Eventually we found the track down about half a mile to the Baths. (I have posted the turn off from Google Maps to help other lost travellers).

The bath looked more like a cattle trough filled with algae, though the water was warm. I loved the idea that we were following the Etruscan traditions of bathing and that there was no one else around.

We never got to find the larger pools, which may have enriched the experience.

Hang with the locals in this ancient bath

We had a heck of a time finding this spot, but were rewarded with a pleasant soak when we did. It's small but charming and historic. We also enjoyed getting off the beaten tourist path and meeting some locals.
