We visited both the birth home and death home of Martin Luther while in Eisleben. Both have been rebuilt but the museums are very interesting and informative. Be sure to stop in the church where Luther was baptized near his birth home--it has been modernized inside, but is very lovely. Also stop in the church near the death house where Luther preached his last sermon.

Really interesting museum about the part of central Germany where Martin Luther was born, living conditions at the time, the local economy, etc. Examples of his later works are on display, too, including controversial ones. All exhibits are in German and English.

I was really impressed with this museum. Really nicely done. Lots of great info and a neat look at Luther's hometown, his family life, and his upbringing. Cool to be so near to where he was born. I thought the museum did a very nice job of showing how so many things in Luther's birthplace contributed to the Reformation. Pretty much everything is available to be read in English. Very reasonable fee. I think we got the combo ticket with the Death House and the Boyhood House (in Mansfeld) for 10 Euros! I really learned a lot here, and spent a lot more time than I thought I would!

Established in the late 17th century, Luther's birthplace was a spot I wanted to include in my LutherLand tour. Impressed to see the reverse image of his parents based on their famous portrait, to see his musical instrument, and the swan that symbolizes the Jan Hus reference that "a swan will come after me." I was pleased that we took the train from Leipzig for this day trip!

Well......I hate giving this an average, because I think it was just that they're not for me. They both had far more information than I would ever have thought. I enjoyed seeing inside the actual birth house to get a feeling for living in that time period. The death house was newly opened and was amazingly creative for their displays - so different than what I might have thought for such an old topic. If you're going on a Luther tour, I'm sure you'll really enjoy. If you're passing through or near town and wondering if you should stop, I'd say probably not.

Definitely the better of the two sites, the Birth House is an easy walk from the Marktplatz and two blocks from the Peter and Paul Church. In addition to a small gift shop, there is a nice patio/beer garden on site.
A combo ticket to the Birth House and Death House is 8E/pers (August 2013).

Born into a historic site, the museum is a multi-room building on several levels. Various rooms tell about the life of Luther and his family.

The place is NOT the house where Martin Luther was born - as it burned down more than 300 years ago. It is a small, new museum with some Luther artifacts.
Fair entrance fee - especially if you combine with Luthers Sterbehaus a few minutes walk away.

While one learns a great deal about the history of Luther's family through this museum, it is an impressive source of information about the world into which Luther was born. How mining was done and how people lived. Our guide was very helpful.

We were here as part of a Luther and Reformation tour. It was very interesting, with many historic artifacts. I enjoyed the section on the mining industry, I had no idea that this industry powered the region during Luther's life.
