Visited this beautiful church while driving the Romantic Road from Wurzburg to Fussen. Very beautiful Rococo church set in a peaceful pasture. With single lane roads and cows grazing, it's an idea spot for a stretch and some culture The church is romantically Rococo. Full...More

Built as a pilgrimage church in the mid-1700's, the Wies Church is off the main highway, tucked into beautiful fields with a peaceful lack of commercialized tourism. While most older churches are dark, this church's light interior shows off the Rococo architecture, frescoes and statuary...More

This is a very beautiful remote church that is not seriously commercialized. The Reformation ruined many German churches, from an artistic point of view, but in southern Germany (Bavaria), you have beautiful unspoiled Catholic churches like this one.

This church is worth any detour. What an amazingly beautiful place. We were fortunate: on the day we visited, a choir, soloists and orchestra were rehearsing for a concert later that evening, and we got to sit and listen. What a glorious experience! But even...More

This typical Bavarian Cathedral seems to attract people from all over the world. In great repair (obviously constantly) this houss of the Lord is meticulously clean. During service you can´t get in. Very bright inside and breathtaking murals! Parking two minutes away, cheap (2 Euros...More

I'm a castle, fortress, church, and cathedral junkie; this is possibly THE church to visit in Germany, but especially Bavaria. During my visit, there was an organist playing the cathedral size pipe organ--beautifully, I might add. This added a very emotional touch to an incredible...More

Its a little bit out of the way. But its a lovely church to visit. There is amply parkingspace, but in high summer it can get crowded. The 18th century pilgrim church build in roccoco style is wel kempt, and very opulant . I love...More

This church has severe rococo to check out. It is not too far out of the way if you go to Neuschwanstein or Linderhof (approx. 30 minutes). There is parking (the only place for tourists), which is 2 euros. The church is free, but they...More

Definitely worth a visit, it's such a magical church. There are a couple of restaurants you can visit in Wies, but they are nothing to write home about. But it's definitely worth the detour off the romantic road to see this beauty

My husband drove us out here after our tour at Hohenschwangau. We were all tired and really not expecting much from this small rural town. The instant I walked into the church, however, I immediately had to catch my breath. It is indescribably beautiful. I...More

Like a few others, I too had rented a car for the sole purpose of being able to take side trips like this during our planned stops (In this case our drive from Fussen to Salzburg). With that said, I do believe that there is... More
