I first visited Die Wies over thirty years ago. It seemed even more beautiful today. We did see some hay drying and wondered if this was a cemetery? Interesting if it is. I cannot find a photo of the church grounds that includes this spot.

The church appears to be in the middle of nowhere and looks very plain on the outside. However once you go inside the decoration is amazing. The work involved painting the interior roof and walls is beyond comprehension.

The exterior of this church does not give a hint of the interior. This is the second time my husband and I visited this church and we realized we were very closed when visiting Neuschwanstein and we wanted our granddaughter to see this special church. Even on a second visit, it is awe inspiring!! The craftsmanship leaves you amazed. Would... More

This place is gorgeous and very peaceful. Outside it looks like any other church but once you step inside its a whole different story. The intricate details and carvings are seen throughout even on the benches. Parking on site is €2.00 go early to avoid the bus tour crowd.

Such a lovely setting- pastoral. Including an active Brown Swiss dairy herd just across from the entry. It is surrounded by active farm lands and wooded areas The outside has enough detail and painted augmentation to be interesting But the interior is so special. Peaceful, beautiful paintings and eye illusions of architectural detail The church official in attendance was very... More

A rococco fantasy of a pilgrimage church, it is like no other church I have seen before or since. The interior is to be savored - you can spend as little as a half hour to three times that time wandering around looking at the various interior details.

The Pilgrimage Church of the Scourged Saviour in Bavaria is one of the most amazingly stunning church I have every been in. I have been in many churches throughout Europe and most recently St. Petersburg, Russia and this church will take your breath away. It is in the middle of nowhere in the Alpine valley of Steingaden. It was designed... More

Germany is blessed with many extraordinary churches. And unlike England, these glorious edifices are actually used as churches. This is one of the very best. We arrived as a mass was underway. SRO, but I stood at the back. So great to see the magnificent carvings throughout and the souls actively seeking for God. A true joy to visit.
