We didn't go inside, but we liked the two very different exterior facades. We weren't on time for the glockenspiel, but it's well known and evidently very charming.

Entire city center of Esslingen is pretty stunning and much more than I expected. Lots of beautiful old historic buildings.

The pride that the locals have taken in assuriing that the clocks have been maintained to perection. The uniqueness of the clock was not imediately evident. As we were standing there admiring the building a local walking by, made it a point to share with us the story of the clock and the pride the community places on it. It was surprising that ince she realied that we are American, that she used what English she could to tell us about the building and the clock. This certainly tweeked our curiosity and we bought a booklet about it at the tourist office. I would advise anyoine viviting the town to do the same. Esslingen was once the most important city on the area. We were unaware of that, until we visited. Give this city a chance. I know that we were not at all disappointd that we did. It was a last second decision, we made while visitd the nearby Mercedes Benz Museum.

As you enter the midieval market area you come upon Rathausplatz and its rose colored old town hall. It has a neat clock in the Renaissance facade with colorful figures marching at the hour. Great photo op especially if you catch the sunlight just right---the clock sparkles when this occurs.

The rathaus would be beautiful by itself but when you see it in the middle of this square surrounded by so many centuries old colorful structures the scene is postcard perfect. Add to that a festive medieval Christmas market and you have a holiday experience not to be forgotten!

I did not go inside this building, but this one, like many others in this charming town, was delightful to look at and admire. This town is a very easy day trip out of Stuttgart and is wonderfully preserved. You feel like you are wandering back in time to the medieval period, when you walk around here. I wish I had stayed for the chiming of the clock!

The Altes Rathaus in Esslingen is a stunning piece of history and architecture. While the market in front of it prevented an unobstructed view of the building, it was wonderful to watch the action when the clock chimed. Lovely building and a definite highlight of the town

Have never witnessed such a rathaus! Especially during the late evening, when the sunlight falls over the building, you can enjoy the glittering view of this beauty!
