Worth the acknowledgement

This is really a plaque and flag arrangement. It is acknowledging the British military for freeing the town from the Nazis, but it is not really a site for tourists.

When one visits Vernon, you must stop and visit this memorial. It is easy to visit and is close to the river, not fall from bridge that was destroyed during WWII. Vernon s where Monty crossed the Seine using a floating Bailey Bridge. Vernon is a lovely town that one should visit if in the area.

A nice memorial honoring British soldiers who fought to liberate Vernon

Two memorials in Vernon honor British soldiers who fought to liberate the city in August, 1944. This one, which occupies a landscaped site on Boulevard du Marechal Leclerc near the Clemenceau Bridge, honors the Nottinghamshire Sherwood Rangers Yeomanry, a Royal Armoured Corps unit that crossed the Seine under fire and played an important role in the battle at the bridgehead on August 28, 1944.
Our cruise ship was docked at Vernon during the celebration of the 70th anniversary of the city’s liberation, an event that involved military representatives and veterans, government officials, other dignitaries, and re-enactors. We were fortunate to be able to witness an elaborate ceremony and wreath laying that took place at the Sherwood Rangers Memorial (see photos).
