It is worth a visit to this tourist information centre. It is housed in one of the oldest houses in Vernon's historic district. Pick up a free map which has a walking tour of all the historic sites in town. It takes about 30-45 minutes to complete. They also sell tickets for Monet's garden so you can skip the queue

My husband and I were on tour with other seniors visiting Giverny, Les Andelys, and Vernon. Our river cruise docked here so we had a wonderful opportunity to spend an afternoon sightseeing the beautiful town of Vernon. The architecture is truly amazing. We took many. many photographs of the area with its ancient buildings and cobblestone walks. This truly is a must to see and experience its history.

We caught an early morning train from Paris to the medieval town of Vernon, where after a trip to Claude Monet's home we decided to tour the 15th century Normandy village of Vernon with its lovely historic buildings before taking lunch and catching the late train back to Paris. The Village square is of particular interest with its Town hall, 11th century church of Notra Dame and the oldest timbered building in the village which is now used as a Tourist Information Office. In the past this building was an Inn and place of refuge for weary travelers. In this office you can get information on over 200 old houses and structures, scattered around the villages cobble-stoned narrow alleys. Most of these have historical plagues of information, and like most buildings in Europe they suffered much damage during WWII. If you drive to Vernon parking can be a problem.
TIP: It is possible to buy tickets to Claude Monet's house here.

A nice medieval house with an external typical wooden structure, close to the main square where also the Town Hall and the main Church are located. A very nice corner of Vernon, a tiny peaceful village, very close to Giverny, famous for Monet.

This is an excellent example of Normand half timber construction. Too bad it does not have a thatched roof.

This is what I identify with small French villages with homes looking like this, made of timber. It was built in the 1400's and is still standing and being used today! Vernon is a delightful town to walk through with lovely historic structures. Worthwhile to spend an afternoon or morning here.

Apart from being the oldest building in Vernon and also beautiful, this lovely building also houses the local Tourist Information Office. It is therefore great to see and go inside to make any necessary enquiries!

Wooden houses always stood the test of time. Vernon has over 200 such houses along the narrow alleys which are mostly cobble-stoned. The town hall is located right next to the Notre Dame church. After parking the car in one of the roads (parking can be quite tricky if you are driving a moderately large sedan, in my case a Mercedes E350).

The 15th century “House of Past Times” is one of the oldest of the more than 200 old wooden houses in Vernon’s historic district. Situated close to the Collegiate Church and the Town Hall, this former inn and café now houses Vernon’s Tourist Information Office.
Just about any photo you take of this ancient corbelled building will look like it belongs on a postcard. Be sure to have a look at the corner post with the Annunciation bas-relief carving.

Took a walk to the old town from the other side of the bridge where we parked and took in a few of the sights and had a coffee overlooking this. Great lovely location and real-time LT newly pedestrianised it seemed.
