Inexpensive gem
Oct 2019
Preferred this to the gallery in Giverny it was under 5 euros to get in and there was lots to see. Paintings by Monet's family of his house and garden, other Impressionists and we especially enjoyed the animal paintings. The old building it is in is delightful.

not really worth bothering with
Aug 2019
I read online that it was worth visiting this museum, and Vernon town itself, if coming to the area to visit Giverny. So I allowed myself about 3 hours in the town (went to Monet's house/garden in the morning, ate lunch there, got the bus back to Vernon and had booked my train back to Paris for the evening). Actually not really worth it. The museum is OK, but very small. There's no explanation of any of the pictures/pieces. There is one Monet original, one of his waterlilies works, but that's the only really exceptional piece. And there's nothing much to see in the rest of Vernon once you've walked through the main streets once (about 15mins tops). I paid to get an earlier train back to Paris. You'll do much better going to some of the amazing museums in Paris (such as Musee Marmottan-Monet or the Orangerie museum) if you want to see amazing art particularly by Monet.

small and full of fun, interesting art--visit, if you like art museums
May 2018 • Solo
The Musee de Vernon is small but it has several really good works of art. Plan on 1-2 hours and take your time. For the size of Vernon, this is truly a remarkable art museum. Try, in French if possible or in English if you have to, to talk with the room attendants. They are very well-informed about the art and enjoy sharing with visitors who are interested. Children may enjoy this museum more than other museums because of the animal focus on the upper floor. If you are here on your own, make this a must-see place. If you are here on a cruise boat, stop at the church and then walk 2 blocks more to this museum, if you have a couple hours on your own. You will also find some good food along the way.

As part of our walking tour, we came here to see the courtyard and the bronze sculptures. We did not go into the museum.

I was in Vernon briefly with a river cruise, and while on a walking tour, the guide pointed out the museum in passing. After the tour, I went alone to this wonderful museum. It was one of the highlights if my trip to France--often the unexpected and unplanned moments are, in my experience. They had a beautiful exhibit of Blanche Hoschede-Monet's art, along with three of Claude Monet's. I was enchanted. This is a small, intimate museum, and I was able to go through it twice in a
short time. The staff was very nice to me, an American with poor French skills. I highly recommend this delightful museum for art lovers, but only true art lovers. It's a treasure. If I lived in Vernon (I can dream), I'd visit this museum regularly.

Well worth a visit, art lovers!

This lovely, well-displayed collection is definitely worth a 40 minute visit en route to Vernon station from Giverny. The permanent collection contains some beautiful pieces from the American Colony artists established in Giverny in Monet's time, along with a beautiful roundel of Waterlillies by Monet himself. The current exhibition of works by Monet's stepdaughter, Blanche, beautifully chronicles her development as an artist.

Disappointing
Jul 2017 • Couples
You can avoid it without particular regrets. It is extremely small.
The only good point is that there are 2 originals Monet.
You can not pay with your credit card, but only cash.

Same place as the Musee Poulain
Apr 2016 • Solo
This is the same place as the Musee Poulain. See review there. It is an excellent museum, and the top floor is devoted to art depicting animals (kids would love this).
