We got off the train in Vernon and this petit train was there waiting for us with a smile and a little doggie. It was such a welcome site that despite the air conditioned bus right next door, we opted for this ride. The cost was 10 euros per person for a round trip ticket. Our biggest worry was that we'd miss our time slot at Monet's house and garden. We took the train from Gare Sainte-Lazare to arrive in Vernon at 9:08 and our tickets in Giverny were for 9:30 (but the next ticket was at 10:30) so we really hoped we'd get there in time. But once on the petit train, there was nothing to do but relax and take in the scenery. Springtime in the French countryside was about to explode on us. We couldn't hear the commentary (our seats were behind the speakers) but it was a relaxing ride where we got to take in the scenery on the way to Giverny, and then on the way back, we got a nice little detour through the heart of Vernon. The driver was pleasant. She lets you off in a parking lot though and it's still a little bit of a walk to Monet's house and if you don't know where you're going, it's a tad stressful when you're in a time crunch. Turns out that it didn't matter that we were 10 minutes late to the entrance and we had a lovely time in Giverny, followed by a relaxing ride back and a lovely time in Vernon.

It's a great way to visit the place. It passes by the Old Mill as well (without stopping by, but it's impossible to enter anyway). The train shows you all the most important spots of Vernon and finishes in Giverny, where you can visit Monet's house. You buy just one ticket at a certain time to leave from Vernon's station and come back from Giverny at any time you like (schedule available online) without notifying in advance. The departures from Vernon are coordinated with the arrivals of the trains from Paris and the driver waits for the guests. When booking you see the departure at 12:00 or 13:00, while the trains from PAris come at 12:03 or 13:03 repescitively, but not to worry. The driver is waiting a few minutes, the little tourist train leaves at about 12:10/13:10 accordingly.

My wife and I purchased round trip tickets after confirming with the driver that there would be a 12:30PM pick up at Monet's Garden and that we would be able to catch the 12:55 train back to Paris.

The trip from the Vernon train station was pleasant and scenic, although slower than the shuttle bus. However, the "train" did not show up at the Garden at 12:30 as promised. After waiting for 10 minutes, we were fortunate enough to find a taxi to the station. When we arrived at the station, we saw the "train" sitting there unattended. No way to get an explanation or request a refund.

Next time, I would definitely take the shuttle bus, which stops about 50 yards from the Vernon train station.

I was disappointed in this gimmick. It was uncomfortable and slow. You could not hear the audio. The smell of deisel was awful. I wish I had taken the bus. It was basically the only thing you could see stepping out of the train station so it appears that it is the only option. Walk further, there are air conditioned busses a couple of hundred feet ahead.

The little train looks like a kiddie ride. It costs €8 and takes you through the town of Vernon (very pretty) from the front of the train station to Giverny with recorded commentary along the way. Perhaps a taxi ride would be better because the little train lets you off in Giverny a good ten minutes' walk from the entrance to Monet's house and garden.

Thanks for your advice We are sorry that the way to go to Giverny by foot seems so long for your but the « Claude Monet street » is a foot pass so nobody can drive in (only resident). We hope you enjoyed your trip Thanks 🚂🚂🚂

We bought 2 return tickets, with an agreed 4pm return time for a 4.50pm train. When we got there at 3.50 the train was full. The driver told us to return at 5pm, i.e. we would have missed our train.

Driver then found one seat on train and told the other person in our party to take the shuttle bus. The return fare was partly refunded, but the shuttle bus left 15 mins later and was itself almost full.

Lesson: fo not trust the train people. They sell you a ticket for a specific train time but make no promise to actually provide the service. Then you may have your group split and risk missing your train.

We are sorry that you didn’t enjoy your trip but we just want to précise that the return schedule is subject to avaibility. You don’t have a fixe return time and we are not responsible of other passenger choice. So if everybody want to come back at the same time, it couldn’t be our fault. That’s why, for compensation, we give you money to take the bus (the bus or the little train are connected to the train’s to paris schedule so nobody ever missed his train). One more time we are sorry for you 🚂🚂🚂

Adorable train ride- and the city is beautiful. The train ride took about 20 mins from the rain station to Giverny, and it took us round Vernon with historical facts every few minutes at points of interest. I really feel like I learned a lot and it increased my enjoyment of the day. Great value for money too, at 8 euros for a return.

I rode this transport to get to the lily ponds. To be honest, I was surprised to see so many ways of transportation to get to the Lily ponds. I would ride this again, if I were to go back because the train is pretty cool. If you're going during non summer time bring a sweater :)

We loved this little trolley ride to the garden - by far the most fun public transport available. It is a fun trip... they take you through town and point out various stuff as well as past a medieval castle... I would recommend you shoot for the last caboose seat which faces backwards. This is a fun way to go... you will have an unobstructed view of the area for pictures and viewing... it is also fun to wave to the people driving behind you that you are facing... the ride is about 15-20 minutes or so to the garden. The price is reasonable - If I remember correctly, I think it was 8.50 euros for a round trip... but be sure to keep your ticket for the return trip - you will need it or have to pay again. The tour is explained in both French and English so if you understand either language you will understand what is being said. The town is beautiful and I think this transport option is a more intimate way to see the town than a sterile bus ride to the garden. The trolley did bounce and larch a bit as it went around corners or over bumps... and vaguely reminded me of "Mr Toads Wild Ride" at Disney World in terms of swaying back and forth and bouncing up and down... but my kids with me loved it and it made the time go by as a fun trip.
