+ : Beautiful building and caves, friendly and informative host although for beginners. If you know your wine basics and if you have seen a cave before you will quickly get bored.
-: 35€ for the most expensive testing, I was hoping to be blown away by few grand cru given tasting start at 10€ in Beaune. 1 grand cru only and from 2018, rightly qualified as « baby » wine by our host. No one would drink it without waiting several years, so what’s the point serving it? Oh wait the shop is next door so you might want to add another 100€ on your visit and wait few years to find out. Given the amount they are serving (rightfully as it’s only a dégustation) they could up their game it wouldn’t ruin their business model (yes it felt like a business, sorry for the romantics)

Dear Pierrelouis,
Thank you for your review!
We are happy to read that you enjoyed our friendly and informative visit.
All our guides/sommeliers are able to adapt to our different visitors, from beginners to wine professionnals (that we host frequently as well).
At 35€, you participate to a complete visit and tasting of 8 wines (1 Grand Cru, 3 Premiers Crus), that lasts 1h30 minutes.
There is also the option to come and just taste some wines if you are not interested in visiting the cellars.
Our Grand Cru is a very appreciated wine (even if vintage 2018 is young). We don't have any older vintages, which is, in my opnion, a great sign of quality. It shows that our customers are very interested in buying this wine. It is already really open to drink now.
And you are right, we have a shop at the Château, and we are able to sell some of these limited bottles. In a lot of other Burgundy wineries, it can be very difficult to buy bottles of Grand Cru wines. So, it should be a positive aspect to be able make purchase if you want. You could maybe note during your visit that our customers never feel forced to buy anything.
We look forward to seeing you again during your next trip in our region!
Best regards,
Gaël M.

The tour was totally underwhelming and we saw only a small part of the wine cellar. No real information. We tasted 4 red and three white, for the price it was one of the worst tastings we have experienced, very impersonal. No opportunity to really taste to people who wish to buy quality wine. The winery does not even use appropriate glasses to showcase the wine they are serving.

Hello,
We're very disappointed about this review, we always try to give the best experience to our clients.
We have almost 4000m² of cellars so you can understand that we can't do a tour of all of our cellars unfortunately.
During the tour all of our guides talk about Burgundy wines in general, about our process of working and of course about our wines. If you already know a lot about Burgundy wines, you should try our Private tours the next time to have more precise informations.
For the wines, tasting is really personnal and we have a lot of great reviews from professionals, so maybe the wines were not your taste but it's not bad quality wines.
To finish, the glasses we use are specially made for tastings, they are recomanded by INAO.
We're very sorry if you had an unpleasant experience in here, we'll be happy to receive you again to give you a better idea of our beautifull Domaine.
Best regards,
Yannick Merlot

Tour and tasting. Tour was a bit interesting but how many barrels can you look at over the period of several days.... Then, the tasting. Our guide and somm, Fannie, was incredible and funny and educational. It was highly entertaining and wonderfully tasty. Would highly recommend this tour and her in particular if you want to taste some Meursault. Would definitely go back.

Our guide was the best! We have been on several tastings, but this one was one of the best. Both the guide and wines was excellent and with great explanations on the complex burgundy system.
We will definitely recommend a visit and we look forward to enjoy our wines when getting home

This is a great wine tour within the chateau itself. The wine was superb and a fair price for such high quality wine. The tour itself is expensive but well worth it as it was a great experience. We opened a 2013 bottle this Christmas which was phenomenal.

A beautiful French village with a stunning chateau. That said the tasting is quite limited. Your given a glass at the start, a cheap glass at that. You then carry it on the cellar tour before arriving at the tasting area. You use the same glass for all wines both red and white. There are no accompaniments to the tasting. The information on the wines was very good and well explained. The tasting is also standing up. For the price and reputation I expected more.

Dear Peter,
Thank you for your feedback !
We are happy to read that you enjoyed the quality of the visit.
I don't really understand the remark concerning the quality of the glasses, which are standard tasting glasses.
You forgot to mention that the glass is given as a present at the end of the visit.
Using the same glass for all the wines is abolutely not a problem for the tasting.
We don't offer food during the tasting in order to feel all the real differences between the wines (which is more difficult with food).
Perhaps the visit you had hoped would have been our private visits, where you are seated in a small tasting room with bigger glasses for our most prestigious wines... Maybe for your next visit in Burgundy?
Best regards,
Gaël M.

Solid wine tour and tasting.
We booked this at the last minute since a prior tasting had canceled. Great information about the Chateau and nice wines. If you’re more a fan of reds, their sister site, Chateau de Marsannay is highly recommended.

So informative despite the fact we are Vigneron’s ourselves and thought we knew a lot. Welcoming and loved the charmes-dessus we are taking home with us together with the wine tour glasses.
We still have a tasting cup from the chateau from 30 years ago. Think it’s even better now !!
Glad we booked the day before to get a tour in english.

Dear Sarah,
Thank you for your positive comment!
We are happy to read that you enjoyed your visit in our Château and our wines.
Meursault Charmes-Dessus is one of our flagship wines, so we are very glad you loved it.
Your review is even more rewarding that you are yourself a "vigneron".
Looking forward to seeing you again during your next trip in our region!
Best regards,

Great explanation of the region and local climates. We already knew a reasonable amount about the area and it’s wines but the tour was very informative. Wines presented to taste represented a good cross section of the area.

Elegant interior, pleasant service.
We ate several times there.
We liked the taste of the food but could only afford 2 plates for 70 euro between the two of us.
After the last visit we dined at Maison Lameloise and saw what a 78 euro can buy. That made us acutely aware of just how overpriced Chateau de Merusault restaurant is - it doesn't even come close in quality of food or service and the value is just not there.
we won't be returning.

Yes of course, you can freely visit the park of the Château with a dog.
Dogs are not allowed inside the shop and the cellars unfortunately.
