It was way to many people there. Almost everybody wore a mask but the distancing rules were impossible to abide by! I didn t feel well there at all.

After almost 20 years of living in Belgium we have decided to check other front sea towns than the usual Ostend and Knokke-Heist.
After three days of exploration De Panne was unanimously voted as the best option by family members :)
Reasons: not crowded, decent infrastructure with sun beds, beverage islands, rental equipment and wide promenade. Topped with quite acceptable fine dining options and easily available parking- definitely our new preference if one has to stick to the North sea.

Very nice sand, clean and with decent people. The awater is pretty far, but once you enter the sea, you can walk for about 100 metres until you reach a decent depth.
You should be very careful about the wind because it is very tricky and you could get sunburn because you don't feel the heat.

Miles of clean sand running all the way up this coast.
We tour in a motorhome so can't comment on parking as we walked to the beach from our camp site but there seems to be lots of parking available though.

The beach is huge and has clearly marked out areas for different activities (sun bathing, kite surfing etc). We used the end with the (modern) statue of King Leopald.

This section is dog-friendly all year (we visited in July). Popular with families as it has plenty of Life Guards, beach huts, free toilets and ice cream trollies!

There's a good selection of restaurants and bars on the prom - all well-prepared for the prevailing winds with glass shelters and wind breaks.

Likewise for the sun-worshippers amongst you, there are plenty of areas you can hire in the middle section of the beach that have built-in wind breaks. Not sure of the pricing as we didn't use them.

Kids will love it here as there's a mad selection of quirky bikes, scooters and mini-quads for hire on the wide prom. There's a big wheel at the other end of the beach, a bouncy castle at the King Leopald end together with an old carousel.

All in all, something for everyone and literally miles and miles of sand!

This is a very long beach with clean looking sand. It wasn’t very good weather when we visited but I imagine this place comes to life in summertime. Lots of beach eateries and shops nearby.

Marvellous, huge sandy beach, seemingly running for miles. Achingly beautiful in the winter emptiness, I'd love to revist in the summer months. Plenty of little cafes, bars and bistros next to the beach or a few steps away. Brilliant!

Perfect for walks during the winter months. Beautiful massive tall statue with three heads each pointing to the three main directions: the United Kingdom, France and Belgium. The other end of the beach has a majestic statue of Leopold 1, first king of Belgium. Worth the detour if you are close.

Although it was December when we visited De Panne we walked on the beach, it is really lovely and I can imagine in the summer it would be great. It is very clean, lots of shops and cafés along the front, well worth a visit.

The front is very similar to all the towns along this part of the Belgian coast. Mix of hotels, shops, eating outlets and access to the coast tramway.

You can easily walk along the seawall into France.
