About
Keramis is a museum, art and creative space dedicated to ceramics, built on the site of the former Boch earthenware factory in La Louvière (Belgium). Its bold, contemporary architecture encompasses a listed old building containing three giant bottle kilns, the last examples of their kind in Belgium. Keramis is the first Belgian art center dedicated to contemporary ceramics.

I only heard about this museum when I went to the local tourist office to ask about another exhibition in La Louvière. I was persuaded to buy a pass giving me access to a number of different museums in the area. So I thought I might as well check out this stylish museum of ceramics, which showcases the production of the Royal Boch factory over the centuries. It was quite difficult to find, as the address was not marked on the map I had. This is because it is part of a completely new development, including an attractive green area, but only a very short walk away from La Louvière Centre station (across a car park and road).
I particularly liked the enormous bottle-shaped kilns around which the main hall was built. Apparently activities are organised for children inside these. I also loved all the beautiful vases and other pieces on display in glass cases, especially the Art Deco ones, as that is my favourite style.
