Extremely long waiting times every day (1.5 hours) at the lift in February 2024. A lot of pushing and people trying to get into the queue from the side. Unfortunately there are no lift staff at the valley station. No refund of money possible.

Naasfeld is a resort best suited to competent skiers . There are very few blue runs other than the nursery slopes and one or two at the top of the mountain which are only accessible via red runs . A lot of the red runs are more like mogul runs and would be classified as black in some countries we have visited . The slopes are not all groomed leading to bumpy rides .
The lifts however are fast and efficient and there are plenty of places to stop for lunch/coffee in the slopes .

The slopes conditions on the 14.12.2023 were tragic. The snow was deep and no one has bothered preparing them. On this day it was impossible to ski hence we've given up and went back home. I cannot understand how the manager of this place could allow people on the slopes. The moneys for that day should have been reimbursed which of coursr did not happen.
ps. Ever since the restaurants were taken over by Slovenians the food is absolutely disgusting.

Huge area with slopes for every level of knowledge, 28 lifts, well maintained snow. Astonishing view, highest number of sunny hours in Austria. My favourite place after 30 years skiing...

The place got stuck somewhere... It boasts 110km of ski pistes, 30 relatively very new and modern lifts... But only one acceptable hotel in the valley, two further right on the top of the alpine pass to Italy and two slightly below. The attempt of one of the best chefs of Austria, Arnold Pucher, to cater for a discerning gourmet in his hotel Wulfenia tragically failed, and the hotel was sold by the banks to a Russian and into an unclear future, the somewhat less rusted sister hotel Sonnalpe owned by his brother also had to be sold to an Austrian hotel group. And then there is a hotel Cube, which is basically just an extravagantly designed youth hostel for the young, poor and drunk. Restaurants? Except for two "hütte" on the slopes, everything either up on the top or down in the valley is a disater pure. Even this might be an understatement considering the plastic-fanthastic fast food eateries around... The first culinary joy can be had as far as 25 kilometres down the road in Kötschach-Mauthen. A long way to drive for a dinner.
How come that these fine slopes do not get the proper supporting infrastructure? Did the lift tragedy of some thirty years ago bring an eternal curse on the resort image (Tröpolach, Nassfeld, Sonnleitn)? Is it the undemanding clientelle in an ever saving mood, in a large part coming from the former communist countries? Or the less than entrepreneurial local decision-makers? Hard to say, but to get the things rolling, the latter could really go for a fortnight's education trip to Ischgl or Obergurgl to learn the trade. The current average guest is unlikely ever to bring a progress to this sleeping beauty, as they bring their own food, their own drinks and spend just for the ski pass.

Nassfeld offers a massive range of slopes from the loveliest of relaxing blue to a mental black. There are lifts located all across the resort to transport you between the various slopes and apart from the morning scrum to get the first lift of the day, queue times were virtually zero. Frequent busses run from the car park to the resort entrance, again, hardly any queuing.
It cost around €250 for 3 adults and 4 kids for the day which seemed about right for the sheer range of skiing available.

NOT A BEGINNER FRIENDLY PISTES AS SUGGESTED.
Almost no areas to progress to once you leave the beginner’s area even if you go on a blue slope you will have to come down a difficult red piste at some point to get to a lift there is no way of avoiding it I’m afraid , lift system is set out all over the place and takes time to get use to it , home run a red number 80 is quite difficult to access and basically you finish off doing a red at the bottom which could be graded black or take the gondola down . Avoid blue run 78 at all cost it’s dreadful the red 80 is easier to ski ,
Also not a particularly safe ski area due to the numbers of idiots straight lining it down the piste with little or no control at all which needs to be addressed.
Piste grooming is not the best also experienced queues for the gondola .
I am an experienced skier and even instructed would I go back to this resort , I think not

Spent a week in June and found this resort to be lots of fun with many good activities. Nice cable car ride to the top of the mountain which are connected with cable cars to other ski resorts within the area. Lots of areas suitable for kids and adults.

Sun every day and great skiing at the tops. The only negative thing about Nassfeld is that it's complicated to ski all the way down. This is because of the difficult terrain, but it makes timing and planning very difficult unless you want to take the lift down too, which feels very strange to do. There should also be more places to eat at the bottom on the slopes. But who can complain with this weather, the sunniest skiing in Austria?

I would like to find out which is the absolute EASIEST slope for beginners in Nassfeld Ski Resort, Austria.
We've had an hour of lessons and messed around a little last weekend. For next weekend we'd love to find a long, wide EASY slope that requires very little skill for first-timers. Preferably one where stopping by means of snowplough is possible, even without much turning.
I've read up on Passo Pramello, Tressdorferalm and Troepolach but am still unsure of exactly where to go. I would love if someone who has been there can help us.
Thank you!

Hi,
I am planning to spend some time in Nassfeld during late December this year. A friend booked a hotel in Tröpolach and I will be staying in Apartment Marie in Nassfeld. What would be the easiest mode of transportation if he would like to join us? Its about 5km from where we are staying, and considering the weather is it at all possible to walk?
Written October 19, 2018
I would advise against walking, since the road is sometimes steep and there is no pavement. Cars are running very fast (Austrian/German style). Certainly in wintertime, it would be a challenge to walk the 5 km. I am not aware of any shortcuts that you could take on foot.

Hi,
I am planning to spend a week , 20-27 Jan, in Nassfeld and I am concerned about the amounts of snow... Would you say that there is a high risk of not getting enough snow at this period ?
thank you
Written October 6, 2017
Hi Frangisko,
Reading this answer, you got to keep in mind that weather is somewhat unpredictable this far advance and climate change isn't helping much.
Either way, I've been three years in a row to Nassfeld, they always start venting artificial snow early in December and by the second week of January you get several heavy snow seasons meaning you get most of the tracks open. Two years ago, I went the second week of January and there was enough snow to ski comfortably, yet it did not snow throughout my stay.
Last year, I went towards the beginning of February, there was plenty of snow, yet it was heavy (wasn't the dry, fresh one you get after a heavy snow). It was enjoyable but it wasn't the softest I've had.
What I am trying to say is:
Unless you are a professional wanting to slide down every track, there will be snow on most tracks by the end of January (which tends to be the coldest part of the winter).
Cheers!
