Walking on this beach in the day time I thought I was in Blackpool, flamingo inflatables everywhere, jetski, paragliding, boats, strong smell of petrol (you can see the oil in the sea) hundreds of tourists everywhere.. it was carnage.
I would recommend getting a motorbike and exploring the many other gorgeous untouched beaches this island has to offer

The Sai Kaew beach and the small town behind it, are unfortunately best examples what happens to tropical paradises if low class mass tourism and uneducated local greed for money are mixed together.
The result is a dirty, stinking, polluted, loud and destroyed place you don‘t want to spend your hard-earned holiday money.
Even more ridiculous is, that the place is defined as so called National Park and a corresponding entry fee has to be paid...

Great beach and as expected busy with amount of people. Main issue is the constant flood of boats coming and going. Can’t quite relax with them coming and going. It’s a shame because a few smaller beaches further down either have a small pier or a small barge ferrying people in to shore.
Water and sand perfect just a shame about amount of traffic. Highly suggest the smaller beaches further down the island.

There is fine white sand. Suitable for walking around the sea Chill and relax close to nature There are many accommodation by the sea to choose from. Including fresh seafood restaurants, inexpensive, who are looking for a quiet, private place to go.

Beautiful beach. Pay baht 200 pr person when arrival. Nice sand, but some plastic. When you pay to get on land, they should also send out people to clean. We, and some other tourists picked up much, but still, much can be done by the restaurants and local tourist office.
Beware jellyfish . We saw one “ Pourtogise war ship” .
But nice holidays and nice beach.

Where is everybody?
Just after internal travel started and there are not many people about.
This is a beautiful beach with fine white sand, unfortunately, there is also a lot of plastic waste that washes up. There doesn't seem to be a lot of sustained effort in clearing it up although I did see a party of volunteers doing their best on one day.
The town is immediately behind, there are a lot of restaurants, mostly shut when I was there.

The hotel is great - staff helpful - we were in the 'Hip Zone' and it was just what we were after. Room was big and very clean. The whole place is laid back. Beach is great, especially the bit constantly tended by the hotel. Beach bars are good/bohemian. We didn't think that the number of boats/watersports etc. were excessive. Thanks Sai Kaew for a great four days and nights.

A very popular and clean beach. It seems to be a popular spot in Koh Samet this time of year.

There were plenty of excursions, shops and restaurants on this stretch of the island. Never a dull moment on this beach, especially with the nightly fire show.

Koh Samet used to be a really nice place. I used to spend weeks there and went back many times. Sai Kaew beach was crowded and trashed ten years ago as well, it just got way worse, unfortunately, business minded greedy Thais and foreigners ruined the whole island. An island that once was a nice and quiet holiday spot has become a crowded trashy place with noisy disco bars, builders ruined the whole area. On wong duen beach they even squeezed in a hotel in between two resorts in a way u can never imagine. Too many people, deckchairs in the water waiting for hungry tourist to pay thousands for a bite of food.
They cant stop building resorts, ruining the natural environment, for which people went there. there is nothing enjoyable about this island anymore.
At ao cho bay the greedy owner of grand view resort just built some more bungalows just to make more money completely ruining the view and the beach, the whole coastline has been altered not in a nice way, trees cut down and the new buildings look horrible. Anyone I spoke to on this beach thai or foreigner were deeply disappointed at everything they saw there.
I just spent three days at Had sai kaew beach after two years and that was the last time i went to koh samet.
Sewage overflowing in the backyards of the resorts, some greedy owner keeping on building even more resorts squeezing in more buildings just to make the whole island even more crowded. It is a smelly dirty island. Dont think that the water is that clean, as all the sewage that floats around in the back of the resorts is slowly trickling into the water u go snorkeling in. This is what happens when greed takes it over.
I dont recommend the place to anybody looking for peace and quiet as the discos are on all night, to make matters worse organizers organize musical festivals building the stage ritght in the water in front of the bars and discos.
It is so hard to believe that for money thais ruined a beautiful island, which is once it was.

We stayed just off the beach. On our first day we walked down to see the beautiful white beach and were shocked with the amount of pollution on the beach. There was hundreds of plastic bottles which looked awful plus dozens of plastic bags left on beach. It’s a real shame that either locals or tourists would be do careless. If you walk along about 15 minutes the beaches are better with less pollution.
