A World Class Winery Experience not to be missed!
From the moment you enter the Vineyard, you feel like you’re transported to the wineries in Australia and US. The wine tour is done amazingly well and timed well. Explaining the varietals and also the wine making process. The flow and entire time went by flawlessly. The English speaking staff was very professional, knowledgeable and also very very friendly. The wine tasting was done very well with full details and descriptions of each wines laid out, not to forget the cheese pairing. Overall one of the very best highlights of the trip, putting other competitors to shame.

    Great visitor experience!
GrandMonte Vineyard is set in a beautiful valley and the vineyards are a lovely sight. GrandMonte does a great job making visitors welcome. People can wander among a small area of the vineyards or even sit among the vines and enjoy a cheese platter and wine. The staff are very knowledgeable about the history of the vineyard and the operation, and they are generous in providing samples of their wine. Tours of the vineyards and wine-making facilities are also available for a reasonable price.

Fun and educational visit in beautiful setting
We paid for a tour and learned a lot. Our guide spoke excellent English. We got to harvest some grapes and watch the whole process as February and March are harvest time. Check out their Sunday harvest festival events during this period. Shop sells wide range of goods other than wine. Vin Cotto Restaurant is lovely too. You can stay at the vineyard if you wish - looks like beautiful rooms but we were already booked elsewhere. Surprisingly, even the children enjoyed the trip. Delicious Shirakawa grape juice served to them during our wine tasting! Small plates of cheese, olives and incredible bread served to all of us during tasting. An impressive set up, very well run.

I really endorse a visit for the guided tour. Our guide was very friendly and informative.

This little family operation is awesome and trying to breakthrough in the wine scene. We did the wine tasting and were pleasantly surprised by how good it was. We never thought Thailand would be strong wine producer, but this vineyard may prove me wrong.

My only regret is we didn’t stay for lunch/dinner. The restaurant looked really cute. Location is actually pretty good too, so if you’re looking to make a trip of it, check out their guest cottage.

Overall, this was a highlight of my trip to Khao Yai. I was really pleasantly surprised by this place!

I was excited about tasting Asian wine so jump on the opportunity when my husband friend suggested to go for the winery tour.

It was really an eye-opening experience. The tour at 4.30pm is the best time for tour as it is cooler. We get to know about the different type of plants, how different wine are been made. We also has the opportunity to puck 2 bunch of grapes, etc.

The scenery is superb as the backdrop are the mountains.

The best thing is we get to do 4 different kind of wine tasting. Though I have to says of all, I preferred the 40% Sugar Cane Spirit. The sweet after taste is most suitable for ladies.

I paid 950THB for a tour of the vineyard, which includes a wine tasting session and a lunch. The tour was hosted by a very friendly guide, who brought us around their yards, winery and finally ended with a tasting of their different varieties of wine. Lunch included was a 3-course meal, home-cooked style and very easy on the taste buds!

One major downside is the remoteness of the Khao Yai region. As I stayed in downtown Bangkok, I had to pay 4000THB (2000THB for the rental & 2000THB for petrol and toll charges) to hire a van to take me to their vineyards for the tour. In hindsight this was very expensive, and something I will not do again unless I intended to stay at their guesthouse.

Other things to note is that we weren't allowed to go near the grapes at all (unless it was harvest season) and the tour was conducted in Thai! The attractions nearby are also mediocre at best, including an Italian-themed village and a farm. It was overall very expensive but a good experience for someone with no knowledge of wine.

Dear Jessel90, Thank you for your kind words on our vineyard, wines, and the restaurant! We are glad to hear that your experience at GranMonte was an enjoyable one. We appreciate your honest review of the experience and hope that you will visit us again. You are right that the travel costs are high for a one-day visit -- we hope that next time you will stay at our GranMonte Guest House for a night or two to relax and enjoy the atmosphere of the vineyard. We have to be mindful of guests entering the vineyard as there could be machineries working, so we do not let guests wander on their own in the vineyard to prevent accidents from happening. We hope you can understand our situation. As for the tour being conducted in Thai, we truly apologize for that. We always take care to schedule English-language tours for our English-speaking guests who made prior reservations. We are sorry for the oversight with your tour, and would like to offer a free-of-charge tour for you on your next visit. Simply email nikki@granmonte.com and reference this TripAdvisor review to make plans with us. Warm regards, The GranMonte team

Fantastic boutique winery in Pak Chong/Khao Yai area. Wines have won numerous international awards yet still reasonably priced. There are accommodation facilities should you wish to stay on the vineyard, and the food is excellent. A vineyard tour is available, and grape-picking optional in season. The host family is wonderful and very accommodating. Great, great experience.

My wife and I had read some positive reviews about GranMonte and its wines, which have won several awards, so we were really looking forward to our visit. It's set in a beautiful valley near Khao Yai National Park about three hours north of Bangkok. After arriving, we decided against the winery tour and went straight to the tasting room. The wine, while not fantastic, was much better than wines from two other wineries we visited in the region, and our host pouring, the owner's daughter, was very knowledgeable and personable in explaining each wine, including grapes, age, bouquet, etc... We ended up purchasing several bottles of their lighter, sweeter varieties for dessert at home.

Unfortunately, the wines could not be matched the vineyard restaurant Vincotto, which we visited during lunch. Granmonte bills it as a gourmet restaurant serving international/Western cuisine, but it is terrible - not even up to standards of most local restaurants we eat at in Bangkok. The staff are indifferent at best, the setting shabby European chic (the outdoor deck overlooks a swampy potato farm) and service is maddeningly slow. I ordered a goat's cheese salad, and got a few leaves of old wilted lettuce and four slices of goat cheese fried in a soggy batter. The fish in my wife's fish and chips was partially raw inside, and though I was excited when they said they could do a vegetarian pasta for me, what they brought was overcooked and cold, with an Asian green I couldn't identify that does not belong in pasta. After the meal, it took almost 20 minutes to get our check. Our driver had the same problem - it took even longer to get his check.

It's too bad: Granmonte has a beautiful location and very good wines, for Thailand. But they need to do massive amounts of work on their restaurant. Don't let their website or advertising fool you: the pictures are pretty, but Vincotto is not only NOT up to international standards, it's not even as good as a basic Bangkok street food.

Dear Jamieandkayo, Thank you for your review. Yes I do remember giving the tasting to you. I am the winemaker and the daughter of the owners. Sorry to hear that you find my wines 'not fantastic' and just 'very good for Thailand'. This is small family own and operated vineyard and winery. You should have taken the tour to learn more about tropical viticulture and you will appreciate what we do more. Regarding the restaurant, I think you happened to have an off day. It is a long weekend right in the middle of the low season so our vineyard was flooded with tourist and we were understaff. No excuse for that, we will improve our services but I wish you could be more understanding seeing how many people were dining at the same time as you. You stated that this is unlike you local restaurants in Bangkok. That is true, because VinCotto is not right in the middle of Bangkok. We are 160km from Bangkok and the nearest 7-11 is a 20-minutes drive away. I'm sorry you found our food not as good as street food in Bangkok and sorry that there were issues with the food. My 65-year old mother was in the kitchen cooking for you, you should have raised the issues. However, we will continue to improve. Lastly, our terrace is not a swampy potato farm. It is a very well kept lotus pond over looking the countryside plantation with mountains in the backdrop. When you look up a tropical island on the internet, no one shows a photo of their resort during the monsoon season. It is the same here that you happen to come here in the rainy season and everything is just a little more lush and green, yet well maintained and manicured. I cannot stop the annual rain from falling in the rainy season. Your critical eyes must have only seen it a swampy potato farm and that our architecture is shabby European chic. The architecture may have not met your standards as we really are not in Europe but I wish you are a little more reasonable. Since we have met during the wine tasting, I wish you would have a little bit of courtesy to speak to me directly regarding the trouble with your food and services. Attacking my family business this way is not appreciated. Regards, Nikki

Perhaps because i'm from Europe that I wasn't so mpressed. It was very busy with Thai people and perhaps it has more of a novelty factor. The sunflower field was beautiful though. The shop here sells the most expensive products I've ever seen.

Dear Sir, It saddens me to hear that our place is not special. We are a wine grower and producer and our wines are highly awarded from international competitions around the world. Even Gold medals from Austria, Europe and various silver medals from France. I hope you had a chance to try our wines and appreciate the effort that we have put into the making of those bottles. We have a lot of Thai visitors as we are in Thailand and a lot of Thais appreciate drinking and enjoying Thai wines and what our estate has to offer in terms of agro-tourism, which is unique in Khao Yai region. My family and I personally source many different products to sell at our shop apart from wine, just to have a variety of goods for visitors. We source the best possible products for our visitors. Quality normally comes with price. We do not profit greatly from selling these products, we just want our customers to enjoy the best quality products we know. Our range of estate grown and produced wines are from 540 baht (which is considered very reasonable as we are taxed extremely highly at 260%) to 6,800 baht for a bottle for our reserve wine which went through a much more hands-on winemaking process, much longer aging time with the best possible raw materials and is bottled in a magnum bottle which is 1.5 litres (twice the normal amount). Only 500 bottles produce since the beginning of our estate. It is a special wine. None the less, in the future, we hope you will have an opportunity to visit us again and dine at our VinCotto restaurant and even stay the night at the Guest House, a unique accommodation, only one in Thailand that sets in the vineyard amongts the vines.

What a great vineyard! We took a tour while staying at the Maze Resort, Khao Yai area. The tour was very interesting and the wine we tasted was actually very good - both red and white. It was the first time we've had good Thai wine! (All the other kinds of wine from Khao Yai or the rest of Thailand we had ever tried were, excuse me, awful - Thai people make lots of delicious foods and beautiful things, but wine-making is not a tradition here). So, Granmonte wine is a wonderful exception to the rule here. Visit the vinery and try their wine.

Love it that you enjoyed our wines! I am very proud of them indeed and only want to make the best wines from the best grapes our vineyard has to offer. Thai wines are of many qualities, but we certainly hope that we are leading the way to making international quality wines! Thank you for supporting our hard work!
