View is great, but jeep ride and toilets are a mess.
Oct 2021 • Family
It's a serious off roading trip with crazy bumps. Anyone with a spine, vertigo or neck conditions please avoid it. The toilets on hill top are worst on planet earth. No sanitation whatsoever. I think they don't clean it even once in a year.
The view from the top is heavenly and requires walking uphill. Only good thing about Mandalpatti is the view. Therz no food service either.

Trip to Mandipatti mountain highest peak
Sep 2021 • Couples
We went in the afternoon by 2pm in mid Sept. Generally a rainy season but still took a chance. The journey took about 1 hour to reach the peak from Madekeri by jeep mahendra. Last 4km is bumpy ride only 4wd can reach by the rocky road. Bad luck the mountain is covered by mist but were lucky to see Neela kurunji flower only blooms once in 12 year. It is a treat for the eye. For 4 person in the jeep costed 3500 for the trip.

Good one.

The road trip from.Madikeri to Mandalpatti , a distance of around 20 km takes an hour. Just awesome road trip, but definitely not for the faint hearted. Personal vehicles are stopped 4.5 km before the view point and you have to trek on uneven rocky ground for that. Else take a 4x4 jeep and enjoy the ride.
To reach the view point from base camp requires a steep hike of around 400.mts. There are two trails , a steep one which is a bit short and a longer one which is a more gentle gradient.
Plastic bottle and eatables are not allowed.
Wear sunglasses as the sun is quite bright at top.
The view from top is just breathtaking and awesome. Enjoy sunset if you have planned a evening ride or sunrise if it is a morning one.

Happy sight seeing.

A Walk In the Clouds
Jan 2021 • Couples
One of the main Highlights of our Coorg trip, this place had the most stunning views where one could literally walk through the clouds. There are jeeps available for about 1500/- and the drive upto the point is about an hour or slightly more. While that drive is nothing to talk about, it’s the destination that is truly fantastic. I’ve done a similar jeep drive to a hill in Thekkady, Kerala but this destination had much better views.

Breathtaking, and body breaking !
Dec 2020
Mandalpatti has become quite a popular place of late, for nature lovers. Happened to see the pics after a bunch of cousins visited the place, I too planned a visit in December, the cold breeze add the mist definitely multiplied the experience.

Happened to read the reviews how the Jeep mafia runs the place, and me being a very bad bargainer, the best bet for me to hire a 4X4 was via the resort which was at Madikeri town for a fixed price. We were 2 families and one Jeep 4X4 was perfect. Started at around 4pm from Madikeri Town. Once out of Madikeri town limits, the roads start turning from bad to worse in no time and with every km covered I was more convinced of my decision to hire a Jeep and not to take personal vehicle till Mandalpatti checkpost (You may take your personal vehicle till Mandalpatti checkpost post which it is mandatory to hire a Jeep). The ride from the town to the hills is around 45 min. The last 3-4 kms (after Mandalpatti checkpost) is extrememly bumpy and not advisable for expectant mothers and people with a history of back ache. One may also trek the last strecth of about 4kms instead of hiring a Jeep.

Though you may ride to the hills on your two wheeler, extreme caution is expected as the bumpy roads are slippery with large rocks and dry loose soil. Hard luck can throw one several meters downhill on the side of the muddy road.

Upon arrival, you would get around 45 mins which is pretty enough. The uphill climb initially - about 0.5 kms would test one's stamina, few drop out at this stage not going any further and stay back in the Jeep - you would see such people waiting at the Jeep Parking area, with the drivers). Once at the view point, every penny spent, every joint shaken in the bumpy ride, every effort put to reach here feels worthwhile. The view is "breathtaking". The photos speak of the place as words cant describe it.

The place closes at 6pm, so better be on time. Few folks arrived at the place late and started walking back without getting to see the view point.

P.S : There are rest rooms at the destination to relive oneself after the bumpy ride, something that is much needed !

Great view and location, off road drive
Dec 2020
Great views, leisure trekking. The peak is around 15 kms from city. You need to hire a jeep to go to this place as private vehicles are not allowed.

It's a bumpy and adventures drive to the peak and need a 4 wheel drive to reach. Once you reach, you would realize that the ride was worth. It offers stunning view of nature around. Not a crowded place so that you can relax and unwind yourself.

Early morning visit is a must to soak in the quietude
Dec 2020
By referring to several helpful reviews by many others, we too planned our visit at the crack of the dawn and it served us well! The best way to travel is to book a jeep in advance especially during peak season. That can be best done through availing contact no from your local host. As we were travelling during the peak season, we were able to pre book our jeep at a discounted rate through our local driver. The ride to the hills would be 45 min to 1 hr but one has to be cautious as it can be extremely bumpy. Upon arrival, the driver would usually tell you to be back within 40 min to 1 hr but we came back in 1.5 hrs as the view was too breathtaking for us to be back this early. I think even the jeep driver understand the case.
In conclusion, it should the must place to visit in Coorg.

Visited Coorg for a day and decided to drive up to Mandalpatti! The roads going uphill are a bit rough so a small vehicle would be a little uncomfortable but a regular sedan or an SUV would be easy to drive up to the top. From the top, you can get a offroading SUV for about INR 750 per person which takes you to a point in Mandalpatti which has a splendid 360 degree view once you climb a small hilltop after the Offroading experience. The scenery is breathtaking especially in the evening when the fog starts covering the valleys! A must see location if you visit Coorg! One or two days are sufficient to see all of Coorg!

Last 5km road is extremely bad. Either hire a jeep or take a walk. The destination is beautiful and worth it.

There is nothing special about this place that is worthy of the bumpy jeep ride worth Rs.2000/- very ordinary views, no shop, utility, restroom in place. Absolute waste of time and money
