    Lovely Colorful Architecture
Tibetan Monastery / Golden temple is located at Kushalnagar, around 35 km from Coorg city. It has an expansive temple complex that houses beautiful golden temple. The major attraction of the place is forty feet tall golden Buddha statues. The walls of the temples are decorated with beautiful paintings depicting the characters from Tibetan Buddhist mythology. Overall the temple’s internal and external architecture looked colorful and lovely. Mobile was allowed inside the temple. There is a shoe counter available with a nominal charge at the entry point of the temple. Besides temple, the complex also houses specific premises / accommodations for the monks, garden, souvenir shop, café etc.

It's a place where you can find solace, gain insights into Tibetan culture, and revel in the breathtaking landscapes of Coorg. The Golden Temple, a short walk from the monastery, is a sight to behold. The intricate Tibetan architecture adorned with golden accents is truly magnificent, visitors have the unique opportunity to engage with Tibetan culture. This Monastery houses three 40-foot-tall sculptures of Lord Buddha. The Golden Temple's entrance is adorned with massive multicoloured paintings on its exterior walls. The doors are painted crimson and have large gold knockers. A sturdy plaited rope with a tassel hangs nearby. The Monastery's walls are constructed in the Tibetan style. There's no entrance fee to visit the Tibetan Monastery or the Golden Temple. You can freely explore the beauty of the Golden Temple. If you're a photography enthusiast, aim to visit during sunrise or sunset to capture the Golden Temple in its most breathtaking glory. On weekends, the monastery and temple tend to get crowded. To fully savour the serenity and spirituality, plan your visit during weekdays or arrive early in the morning. The monastery has many small gift shops with Tibetan artefacts. This monastery is situated in Kushalnagar a little away from the main Madikeri town. I came to know that this is onle of the most important Buddhist temples in southern India and is also one of the largest. Having travelled largely across the Himalayas I am always attracted to Tibetian monasteries as they bring a different sense of peace. I always appreciated the fact that they never imposed religious restrictions or dress codes for people who wanted to visit the Tibetian monasteries. I always felt these monasteries to be more accepting and tolerant towards people of other faith. The Golden Temple in Coorg revived my old memories of Himalayan monastery visit but the huge crowd at the premises somehow dampened my spirits. We went on a Saturday and the place was packed with people. Even the main sanctum hall hosting the idols was extremely noisy. I wish people respected the sanctity of the place by maintaining some peace. Other than this factor I loved the place. It gives a glimpse of the Tibetian Buddhist culture and I feel anyone who is interested to learn about other culture will love to visit this place.

This is a great monastery to understand Tibetan/Buddhist way of life. The place to leave your footwear is streamlined. There are many options to take great pictures. Make sure to sit and spend sometime in the main temple area (with big statues). There is a room with monks praying and it is great to hear those chants!

The golden Temple or the Namdroling monastery is a lovely place with 3 temples. The largest temple has monks studying there. The architecture and paintings on the walls is amazing. The monks living quarters are right there and they are hardly perturbed with the large number of tourists visiting them. It is on the way to Madikeri and is a must visit.

It is a very crowded place, lots of construction going on at places inside. Did not want to take off my shies to go inside the main building, it didn't look very clean. We went around mid morning.

The monastry is not that great to visit. Most of it is curtailed off for visitors, which is fair, as it is supposed to be a sacred, peaceful place for meditation. The only place that is open is the temple, which is majestic, but otherwise not really great. A nice set of shops at the entrance where you can get great Buddhist stuff.

If you like to take it slow, visit in off season when there is less crowd. I visited during Christmas holidays, the place was house full! Worth a visit, don’t get me wrong. The inside of the temple is worth a watch.! And the monks are nice and the gift shops inside are good. Food is nice too outside if you like Chinese. Worth visiting once.
