I loved visiting this museum, so much to see! From the beautiful wood carvings and seats, to the old photographs of people of the area and model ships. Especially interested in information about Knoydart as was visiting there. Lots of geographical information. Great volunteer, good wee shop. Kweo it going!

The only place that seems to acknowledge that you have tourists visiting on a train ride from Fort William. The rest of the town could learn something from this place. Lots of history and fair variety of artefacts to see. Not much for children. Maybe there could be guided talks ?

Return trip to Mallaig by car this time, beautiful sunny day. Waiting on ferry over to Skye so wandered back into heritage centre. Same cheery lady was on and overheard her once again giving directions to Restaurants in Mallaig. She remembered me too, spent time having a look around and bought bits in the shop. Well worth spending time in the heritage, lovely cheery staff. Lovely visit to a busy Mallaig on Wednesday 28 August hope to be back next year.

After a stunning ride on the train, Mallaig was a bitter disappointment. We knew we had a 2hr wait for the return journey. The only places open was the Co-op and a shop selling take away drinks. All hotels and cafes shut, what a warm Scottish welcome, even the heritage centre locked up. We didn’t expect the place to be busy, but at least a cafe open would be welcome.

Arrived in Mallaig on afternoon train, brrr, wet and windy but wandered about. Heritage centre was a very welcome, warm and interesting little musuem with lots of lovely photos of Mallaig in the past, we had our little dog with us who also enjoyed the warmth of this lovely place. Lady at centre was extremely nice and cheery on such a cold day. Thank you for our shelter while waiting on return train. Very happy to leave a donation, after all how do buildings like this survive. Toilets were spotless.

Extremely rude staff, saved time on our visit to Malliag today before our train back to Glasgow to visit the heritage centre we arrive at 3.45 and we where told it was closed although the opening times clearly stated it was open until 4pm. When challenged on this the staff member became extremely rude and told me they were shut and told me to leave. I am very disappointed as it would not have taken me more than 10 minutes to look around.

We went on the train down to mallaig.
Went into the centre to have a look as it was recommended. The minute we walked in the door we were told that we had to pay to use the toilets. No hello No welcome no chance to say we were coming into to the centre to see it just a horrible rude assistant telling us we had to pay if we needed to use the bathroom. Hence we turned around and they lost two customers. Just for the record we didn't need the toilet.

I took a day train trip from Glasgow to enjoy highland view and Harry Potter train bridge. Took a one-hour ferry and saw seals before catch train back same day. Very enjoyable short stay at Mallaig and the scallop chowder very delicious!

Lovely lady on the desk, nicely laid out and despite us taking a long time in there to stay out of the rain, nobody rushed or bothered us. Really great insight into the local area!

While waiting at the train station around 4:45 pm, we decided to go into the Heritage Centre with 2 of our children. The cost wasn't much for adults and children were free. Closing time was meant to be 6 pm and we expected to have plenty of time to walk around.

However, after approximately 10 minutes within the centre there was an EMERGENCY. The lady working there said "There is an emergency and you need to evacuate. There will be a man to re-open the centre again in a while."

We duly complied along with all of the other visitors and left the centre quickly and sensibly.

Suddenly, we saw the lady working there leaving work with bag in hand and the centre closed to visitors. The emergency appeared to be over and it looked like the emergency was that she had to leave early.

At only a couple of pounds per adult, it was very disappointing what we were 'evacuated' from the centre due to mismanagement of employees.

The receipt does entitle you to visit the centre at any other time, just make sure that it's not close to closing time or you may find yourself in an emergency situation.
