WHAT A BEAUTIFUL STATION!
Oct 2021 • Solo
Wemyss Bay is served by Scotrail. There are hourly trains from Glasgow Central and Paisley to this little port. From here you can get the Caledonian MacBryne ferry across to Rothesay.

The station is magnificent in terms of architecture. It has a sweeping ramp leading down to the ferry terminal and glass, curved ceilings on the concourse. It has been beautifully maintained.

There is a ticket office and a cafe on the station.

Well worth taking a trip to see this station and enjoy the scenery on route.

Don’t miss

We would have missed this beautiful little station If we had not recently seen it on tv as it is very unassuming from outside, we parked in the queue for the Bute ferry early enough to have ten minutes or so admiring the pristine interior and buying a few old maps in the interesting book shop. We loved the information boards and the photos showing the importance in times gone by to holidaymakers heading out via the Glasgow rail link.

Beautiful station

This is a beautiful little station with great connections to the ferry. It is beautifully maintained by volunteers and theres gorgeous flower displays all along from end to the other.
There is a great second hand bookstore, a lovely little cafe and a bar all inside the station and lots of Info board's and old posters making you feel like you are travelling back in time.
Makes a wonderful place for a daytrip across the water!

SUPERB!!!

This current station was built in 1905, and is an outstanding example of an Edwardian Railway Station. It is noted for its architectural elegance, was designed by James Millar, and, is one of the finest in Scotland.

Since 1971, it has been a Grade 1 listed building.

We were fortunate to have visited on the day the Royal Scotsman excursion train was there. See photos.

For me a must see attraction.

What a station to arrive in off the ferry from Rothesay. Having opted to arrive in Bute on the ferry to Rhubodach from Colintraive, having stayed in Dunoon, all manageable by bus if you plan. You get to see parts of Argyll & Bute otherwise missed. So it was my first time visiting Wemyss Bay, for a connection to Glasgow. The butchers opposite and cafe were closed as a Sunday but will do the journey again, as Rothesay was a gem, and visit definitely!! You can imagine the hoards of Victorian holidaymakers from Glasgow using this syation and then the ferry. Has a feeling of yesteryear and nostalgia not to be missed

Never get bored of coming to this station, the architecture is amazing. Used the station quite a few times for train and ferrys to Bute. Very clean and great staff working there. Worth a visit to the coffee shop and the bar.

We caught the ferry from weymyss to the Isle of bute and we had to pass through the station to board. The station itself has a very victorian feel about it with a unique structure of wood, glass and metal. It has a few amenities such as a cafe, bar and toilets, it also has good links via ferry and trains

Pretty Station
Jul 2020
Named as one of the top ten train stations in the UK, this station is an architectural masterpiece of glass and steel curves. I was here while there’s still a partial lockdown, so I had the station mostly to myself. Makes it easier to admire.
