About
17th-century castle owned by the same family for over 350 years. Open April to September; access is by guided tours only. There are steep spiral stairs to the upper floors. A stunning castle in a wonderful setting, said to be the inspiration for Disney's castles. Please note that due to renovations the castle, shop, kiosk, toilets and the area immediately adjacent to the castle are closed until 2024.

Wonderful. Very interesting. Paul was a brilliant tour guide, and made it a fantastic experience. We went with my 93 year old grandmother and 5 month old son, and he was very attentive to everyone. Would 100% recommend.

Fantastic visit to the castle. Had a great visit and very informative tour. Need to book though to avoid disappointment. John Lemon in the shop was especially helpful. Can’t say too much about him. Went extra mile.
Woodland walk (at time of visit) was impassible due to amount of fallen trees. Had to abandon walk with dogs.
Disappointing kiosk though with a small amount on offer. Tea, coffee, snacks etc. Alford near by for a brunch/lunch.

We visited Craigievar Castle last week. We were having a day "Castle hunting" and it was tge second Castle We visited on that day. We were a little disappointed to find we couldn't just walk around the castle but had to go on an organised tour, unfortunately we were too late fir that particular day nevertheless we walked around the outside and went into the shop and bought Hamish.......the hairy coo. My granddaughter loves him.

Had an excellent guided tour on Sunday afternoon by National Trust at Craigievar Castle.
All staff were very helpful and knowledgeable about the history of the castle.
We were members when the kids were younger, and have now joined again as annual members, kids all grown up!
Looking forward to our next NTS visit.

Craigievar Castle is a very charming baronial castle, painted with pinkish colour. We were there on a Wednesday, thus the inside of the caste was closed (check opening times carefully before going). Even though it was definitely worth the visit. The castle’s surrounding park is very charming, and we ate our lunch packs in the garden enjoying the tranquility and the views of the castle. One tip: if the castle is closed there is no need to pay for parking.

We visited this wonderful castle which is in the care of the National Trust and were taken on a guided tour by a very knowledgeable member of staff. The history of the building and its custodians was well narrated by our guide. Certainly we’ll worth travelling to see.

Interesting history to this castle which was told in a very good 60 min tour. Well worth a visit. Some very tight winding stairs, best not to take a backpack with you.

Visiting the area with my wife to be decided the castle that had influenced Walt Disney 😳
This is part of the nation trust so I would say it's well organized.
I went in with open eyes thinking it's another castle own by a laird or lord 😵‍💫
Very much wrong the guide Adrain was so informative and the interaction with the group was well presented he gave the group plenty of information about the rooms, paintings and items around each area if the castle also steeped in history.

If you can book the tour ask for Adrain well worth it. Also he wears a kilt 🤪🤪👍👍

This is a lovely, cosy castle which feels really unique and is in a beautiful setting.

Each room you get to see is full of interesting bits and pieces, and the guide we had did a great job of explaining the history of both the rooms and the castle's inhabitants.

You do need to be fairly fit and steady on your feet as you ascend - and descend - via steep, spiral, stone staircases but it's definitely worth the effort.

It was all very fascinating and the place has a lovely atmosphere. We really enjoyed our visit.

A lovely little castle with a big heart. Excellent tour guide and helpful staff. Not for those who find stairs tricky. Multiple floors of atmospheric tower/castle rooms decorated with tartan a-plenty and exquisite 17th century plaster ceilings. The stories told are engaging and the whole castle is full to bursting with the belonging of the Forbes Family. Probably our favourite NTS property in Aberdeenshire.
