We began our tour with a warm welcome and truly delicious scones and coffee in Laurel Villa. The beautiful surroundings and creative presentation of food added to the culinary experience. We visited the many places that inspired Seamus Heaney and were privileged to share Eugene's knowledge of and enthusiasm for the poet's work. To understand the background and location of a poem really brings the words to life. Despite being the driver on a very hot day, I still really enjoyed this unique experience. Sincere thanks to Geraldine and Eugene for a most memorable day and an even greater appreciation of Seamus Heaney's work.

This tour takes you on a literary experience where Seamus Heaney is experienced in all his simplicity and creativity. Eugene has a heartfelt connection to this part of the world, and to Seamus' love of words and his home place. On this tour we heard and felt how the ordinary ways of life - the digging of fields, or the peeling of potatoes - can inspire a writer to the words that now are of international acclaim. The Homeplace and this tour, which Eugene conveys with warmth and knowledge is a tribute to the inspiration and belief that Seamus Heaney had in his land, family and neighbours. How proud Seamus Heaney must feel in knowing that he is not forgotten, and is celebrated in tours such as this. Well done and thanks to all who make this possible.

I spent a few hours on a private tour of Heaney country with Eugene Kielt and it was a revelation. He and his wife Gerardine knew Seamus Heaney, holding regular poetry events at Laurel Villa which he attended. Eugene took me to numerous locations in the local area that were important in Heaney's early life, and played readings of relevant poems. Without doubt this experience will greatly enhance my appreciation of Heaney's work. This would be close to the best tourist experience I have ever had. Thanks so much Eugene!

We recently had a bespoke Seamus Heaney tour with Eugene Kielt. This was informative, imaginative and most of all enjoyable. Eugene brings the lines of Heaney poems of the page and into life; we visited locations pertinent to his poems and we laughed and felt sadness in equal measure. The tour is educational for the insight to 20th century Irish social history, the more recent 'Troubles' and the rural and agricultural heritage of the Magherafelt, Castledawson, and Bellaghy area. Eugene is still in contact with Heaney's surviving Family and his Tour will give you an insight that is unique, well researched and sensitive to the beauty of Heaney's words. Excellent.

Both of us were enthralled by the tour. En route to see the many places associated with the life of Seamus, we were entertained by listening to taped recitations of relevant poems. We could never have managed to see so much on our own. Eugene is a veritable font of information and his passion for the poetry is very evident. Our pre-tour lunch was extremely tasty and beautifully presented and the villa is full of little treasures ! You will not be disappointed !
