Unmissable

Fascinating church with Arts & Crafts murals. These include a "family tree" of the northern Christian church's history and the life of St Oswald. Good stained glass including in the decorated side chapel a very large window with the life of St Cuthbert.
Good organ and very interesting small museum at the west end - there is also a chap who is full of info; a very welcoming place.
We attended the said BCP HC on Wednesday at 9.30 am (congregation of 5) which (unusually for these days) was properly presented - such a pity the present vicar is about to retire!

On our visit to the area around this time we always look forward to the Christmas tree display. Very much missed this year.

WOW WHAT A CHURCH!
Mar 2020
Such a lovely piece of architecture in a wonderful North Yorkshire town.
It was so nice to call by and have a peep in.
One of the voluntary helpers was there, and gave me an insight to the interesting history of this fascinating church.

I’m not religious but I like the architecture of old places. Well maintained, quiet, peaceful and colourful windows.

Such a lovely looking church from the outside but was a surprise inside. It is totally stunning with paintings on the walls are breathtaking. A peaceful and beautiful place. Please don't miss it in the lovely town.

Nice church
Aug 2019 • Couples
Right in the centre of the town is this 12 century church. The best views are from the inside of the church and the many stain glass windows.
We just got in before a wedding so seems a popular place.
There is no parking outside but a pay and display in the market square or nearby.

12th century church heavily restored by the Victorians
Jul 2019 • Couples
There has been a Christian church on this site since around 200 AD and the present structure has both 12th and 19th century elements following major refurbishment in the 1830s, which included a striking mural on the North Aisle wall. There was a well attended service in progress when I visited, so my exploration of the interior was limited. But well worth seeing.

Different style of wall paintings!
Jun 2019 • Couples
A peaceful, interesting church. It has wall paintings, but Victorian, not medieval as most churches! Quite political, making the point that “Helmsley is the centre of the universe!” Also has a Viking hogsback gravestone, which has been moved in from the porch for preservation.
