About
Open 7 days a week from 15 February 2025 until 2 November 2025. The National Centre for Birds of Prey at Duncombe Park is the largest collection of these amazing birds in the north of England. You will find over 150 owls, eagles, vultures, falcons, hawks kites and more in a spacious 10 acre setting. We are a leader in the captive breeding, welfare and conservation of these awesome birds. Please don't compare us to other bird of prey centres, we are in a different league! We have a team of trained bird who fly three times a day at 11.30 and 14.00. Different birds are flown at each demo. We even have an indoor area if the weather isn't being kind. In recognition of the quality of the National Centre for Birds of Prey - we won our category in the White Rose Awards, the UK's largest regional tourism awards and then we won best attraction in the Visit York awards

- KASHMACYork, United Kingdom194 contributionsFabulous experienceMy son & I visited in Sept 2022, he had bought me the experience as a birthday gift. What a fabulous idea. We didn’t realise you could spend the whole day there, or pop back in after visiting Helmsley, great idea about the wristbands to enable this. We will definitely be back & do that next time. As everyone has said, the birds look very healthy and happy, with ample room in there clean aviaries. The info is clear, concise and humorous on occasions. We enjoyed walking around and taking in the info & seeing the amazing birds. We saw one flying demo which was informative, amusing and amazing to be part of. We didn’t expect that the birds would be flying so close to everyone, that is a great idea to make you feel so inclusive. Charlie is a true entertainer as well as a great handler. We went on the hour Hawk walk with Amy & Palomar, Amy made us feel at ease & gave clear advice on what we needed to do. An excellent experience. Can’t wait to go back soon.Visited November 2022Traveled as a coupleWritten October 8, 2023
- Soozie1000Chelmsford, United Kingdom60 contributionsGreat day outReally interesting day out - fascinated by all the extra info (did you know some birds of prey poo on their feet to keep them cool???) and loved the flying displays. Staff were friendly and entertaining. Simple but tasty soup and bread for lunch in the cafe. Well worth a visit.Visited October 2023Traveled with familyWritten October 18, 2023
- Helen C3 contributionsFascinating placeVery easy to find this place. Good information about the birds, watch out for the humorous ones. Small cafe with good coffee, didn’t eat as it was shortly after our breakfast. There’s only one loo near there, so I expect there could be queues in busy times The flying displays were excellent but wear warm clothes as it’s quite exposed where the birds fly fromVisited October 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten November 6, 2023
- john E124 contributionsWinter Owl walkAn excellent evening. The evening started promptly at 7pm, we were welcomed with a warming winter drink of either mulled wine, or spiced apple. We were taken an a walk around the aviaries with the handler giving a through talk about each owl and a few great stories mingled in. Before moving on to the second half of the aviaries we were treated to an indoor flying display by the smaller owls. The walk around the second half we were again given in-depth information and stories about each one. At the conclusion of the aviaries, a warming two course meal was served, thoroughly welcomed on a cold autumn evening. The finale of the evening, is the night flying display, by three of the owls. Thoroughly enthralling under a star lit sky. Silent flight is extraordinary. Well worth it, an experience to do again.Visited November 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten November 14, 2023
- Ggggg40 contributionsLoved itWe nearly didn't visit due to the weather when we woke up that morning and having checked the forecast for the day. It was raining heavily but we made the decision to go and despite the terrible weather I'm pleased we did. Don't get me wrong it's all outside and the cafe was closed which we only realised when we tried the door. We arrived for the 1st flying display and had a good look around then sat in the car to try to dry off for 1 hour before the afternoon display. We both really enjoyed the day and can only imagine how much better it would have been in good weather. We will be back.Visited March 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten March 20, 2024
- Terry S54 contributionsClose Encounters of the Feathered Kind.We came along for the raptor experience day and had an amazing time, despite the weather being bad. As a spectator with my wife, we were able to follow and observe for most of they day. The priority is the birds in a place like this, and it shows. Staff were very knowledgeable and friendly. A good variety of birds we flown and it's great for a close encounter. We learnt that their sister business was the IBPC in Newent, which had the brilliant Jemima Parry Jones at the helm. So it's no wonder the Yorkshire centre is as good as it is. We will be back within a couple of months. Keep up the great work.Visited April 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten April 28, 2024
- Holiday_jewelsNorwich, United Kingdom11 contributionsAmazing owl experienceI was bought an owl experience as a present and hadn't done anything like this before so didn't know what to expect, but it was amazing. The staff were so friendly and knowledgeable and its clear they really care about the birds. The owls fly freely and are trained to fly on to your hand (special gloves provided). We held 5 different types and there was plenty of time for owl selfies and awesome photos :-) The setting is so nice looking out over fields, I thoroughly recommend it!Visited May 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten May 21, 2024
- Harvey2334Nottingham, United Kingdom41 contributionsGreat place to visit with the family! We watched two bird flight demonstrations. The burrowing owl (called Denali) was a highlight and a real character! We had lunch at the cafe, would highly recommend the cheese and ham toastie! Thanks to Charlie and the rest of the team for a enjoyable day out and for a great job in looking after the birds. We will be adopting the burrowing owl and when we are in North Yorkshire on holiday again we will visit the Centre again!Visited June 2024Traveled with friendsWritten June 14, 2024
- Grace F2 contributionsLovely PlaceHad a lovely day out. Incredible staff who were clearly passionate about their jobs, along with incredible birds as well. The best flying displays I've ever seen. Brilliant value for money if you stick around for all three displays.Visited June 2024Traveled with familyWritten June 22, 2024
- Lisa S18 contributionsFantastic experienceWe spent a really interesting afternoon at the centre and we will certainly visit again. The demonstrations were so informative and enabled us to see the birds up close showing us their amazing natural skills. I do recommend taking in as many of the demonstrations as you can. The centre itself is also in a very lovely spot and the staff were helpful and knowledgeable. I felt that the birds were very well cared for and it was a privilege to be able to see so many different birds of prey in one location. This is a "must visit" place to see how incredible these birds are. It left us more informed and reinforced that we must protect these species and I feel the centre is striving to do that. Free parking and a nice cafe rounded off the experience too!Visited July 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten July 7, 2024

We visited today - a cold, grey, miserable, mizzle filled day, but it was so worth suffering the weather to see the magnificent birds at this centre. The owners and staff have worked incredibly hard to get it to its extremely high standard and even though there were only four people there, we were still treated to a superb flying display. Admission fees are not expensive and we will definitely visit again if we are in the area - preferably on a nice, warm, sunny day!

Decided to visit on what turned out to be a wet grey day. But the weather didn't spoil the day. Loads of birds to see, loads of information panels gauged at all ages. We saw two flying displays. The falconers were knowledgeable and had a really good rapport with the birds. They spoke to the crowd really well. The audience whilst we were there ranged from 4 to 80's and everyone was listening. The owl cafe food was priced very well and the quality was very high. The stamp trail for the kids was a good addition to keep ours interested in walking round even on a wet day. All in all a really good day out. We would definitely visit again and try and see some more of the estate. Highly recommend.

Received a Raptor Experience as a Birthday gift. Arrived at 10am and was greeted by Ben and Sarah who would be our guides for the day.
Spent loads of time in a our group of 6 - able to ask loads of questions about the birds while they were flying and landing on our gloved hand.
We did the Hawk Hike, where Ben took us for a hike into the woods and brought along a Harris Hawk that followed us around swooping in for food as we talked.
A great day out at a lovely centre for Birds of Prey

Enjoyed seeing a wonderful variety of species of birds of prey.
Thoroughly enjoyed the two flying displays and the information given by their handlers/keepers.
My only suggestion would be if the handler/keepers could give the opportunity for questions after the displays (socially distanced of course!). I do understand they must make sure the birds are safely returned to their locations after the displays, but it would be nice to have the opportunity to ask a question informally.
Tip, if you show their current publicity leaflet you get 10% off of admission price.

My husband, myself and our 24 year old son visited from 10.30 to 2.45 pm. It was lovely not to have to prebook and there was plenty of room to maintain social distancing. We attended two of the displays. They run three displays a day and each uses different birds. We really enjoyed the commentary which advised about the particular bird and it's place in the wild/overall ecosystem.
We also enjoyed a simple but well made lunch of soup, baked potatoes and sandwiches. The price was reasonable.
We didn't have time to do a walk but the surrounding grounds looked inviting.

We visited as a couple on Thursday 19th August 2021 and found the ÂŁ10 admission fee which includes parking, total use of grounds and up to 3 displays of the birds of prey very good value, especially if you decide to stay for the 3 demonstrations. In between the display times you can explore the large grounds, see all the birds and visit the reasonably priced cafe. Great for a family day out.

We’re regular visitors to NCBP and have been for years. I couldn’t speak more highly of the place. Charlie and the team do a wonderful job educating the public about their birds and you can tell how much they love their work and the animals in their care.
In addition to our regular visits (about 3/4 times a year) we also enjoyed one of the winter owl evenings last year. It was a fantastic experience and I’d recommend it to anyone who fancies doing something a little different when the nights draw in.
NCBP is a perfect day out. We usually turn up in time for the first afternoon flying demonstration, then pop to the cafe for lunch, have a wander round seeing our favourite birds (I recommend spending some time with the crazy caracaras) and then head back to the flying ground for the last demo of the day. It truly is my happy place.

We have just spent the morning here looking around the aviaries at the fabulous birds. We then watched the flying demonstration of an eagle, owl and hawk. Can highly recommend this, the two guys were very professional and informative but also really entertaining!! There is also a lovely cafe selling hot food and drinks. All covid precautions are well placed throughout the centre.
We would definitely return.

The Centre is located in a beautiful area and is probably the best Bird of Prey centre that I have visited. Expectations were exceeded on all counts. The Flying displays were excellent and featured a variety of birds from Eagles to Burrowing Owls. The passion and enthusiasm for the birds was evident in the Aviaries, the handling, Conservation work at the centre and the information provided. Admission also buys you a very nice booklet to read later.
There are great opportunities for the amateur Photographer on a general visit especially on the Hawk walk where the flying birds are kept outside of the Aviaries.
Do take advantage of the excellent Owl Cafe while you are there.
At the present time the Centre is taking all reasonable precautions against the virus and we felt very safe at all times.
