This poorly advertised gem is booked at hotel Sandos San Blas on the boardwalk edge of San Blas resort. The natural reserve is like a mini Grand canyon, with great live commentary delivered through headsets, as actors took us back through time. The volcano shaped the land, then Tenerife Guanches lived there before conquering settlers moved in. Interactive experience is followed by a walk into the steep sided reserve. Raft trip across the reservoir feels like a film set. €15 for non hotel guests. Visit the hotel bar afterwards, great cocktails and a lovely setting.…

The guided tour takes you through quite an amazing and perhaps somewhat surprising landscape with some "actors" helping to tell the story. The history behind this seems quite interesting and one could certainly spend more time studying it. As we didn't stay in the hotel which seems to own/manage this area, we felt a bit like outsiders. Either way, it seems advisable to book in advance - we couldn't get tickets for the day we first went there and then booked for a few days later: An English guided tour in the morning. I don't think it is possible to go on your own - this is only with a guide. It was €15 per adult. Everyone else turned up with trainers but since we were not advised of this, we turned up in sandals, which worked out fine in the end. Sunglasses and a hat might be a good idea on a hot day! The tour starts with a guided indoor exhibition and then a walk outside, including a short ride on a boat across a small lake. At the end there is another video exhibition telling more of the history of the island. This was definitely worth it. Tours are also available in German.…

Very informative guided walk, extraordinary experience tunnel and small museum. Quite a few surprises on the way (which I wont spoil) and very good guides. Never been anywhere quite like this so if you have any interest in geology/vulcanology or local ethnology it is well worth the time and entrance fee. As a resident of the San Blas Hotel which owns the site you get a reduced entrance fee for the tour and free access on your own to roam around. We went back a few days later to see some of the areas that were not covered on the tour which was also a good experience and the 'wash' from the planes creates some weird sound effects in the valley. Tracks there are less well marked with prickly cactus to contend with. The hotel also do a night tour to see the stars (for free) which we did but it was cloudy and our guide had some information on a laptop. Must be great with a less cloudy sky.…
