Free! It was nice to walk into the first floor of this castle. It seems like it was used for several purposes over the years (such as a school, government building, housing royalty, and finally the center of commerce). You should definitely spend about 10-15 minutes to see the sights!

Fascinating castle with interesting history going back to the 9th century. It has been beautifully restored and, I understand, is partially used by local government.
It would have been nice to have seen more than just the ground floor courtyard area, but I think other parts are only open to the public on special occasions. Can't complain when it is free access!

all people talk about Zahara, Conil, Caños, Bolonia and Novo, but this village is a perfect mixture of history, architecture pearls and sandy white beaches even in the core town of La Costilla seaside area, if you go to the outskirts you will find paradise beaches as Punta Candor. Fortunately not many hotels so you could only go and see cos it is very expensive too book in this charming fishing and historical village. Lets keep the secret!

The Castillo de la Luna is just opposite to the Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de la O. The entrance to this building is free, but unfortunately you can only access the ground floor and the inner courtyard, it is worth the while to enter into this castle that was constructed at the end of the 13th century on the remains of a Muslim monastery.

Small castle that now houses government offices. Not much to see unless you sched a tour. Inner courtyard is pretty nice but that's all you can really see.

A small castle where we could only see on the ground floor. No charge for admission and only a quick visit necessary. We were not allowed up stairs where, from reading other comments, others were able to do so. Perhaps that was why we were not charged for admission. We were there on a Monday when a lot of other places are closed.

Who doesn’t like a castle across from your hotel? Chris Columbus stopped by back in the day and convinced the guy that lived here to pilot his second voyage to the New World (that’s us!)

It is very much a castle of a noble family now it belongs to the government and they do a good job of preserving it and opening it up for special events. Worth half hour of you time to check it out in old town Rota.
