- Catherine D8 contributionsOMG Good! The food at Herdade do Espordao is OMG good. We had the seven course option and left on cloud nine. Perfect wine pairings with spectacular food and impeccable service! Do not miss this as you travel thru the area of Portugal, you don’t know what you’re missing until you’ve experienced it. This was the best experience we’ve had in Portugal!Visited October 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten October 4, 2023
- Alan A1 contributionExceptional lunch! We had lunch today at this wonderful restaurant. We were especially impressed by their Green Michelin Star and that the entire winery is bio/organic! We chose the 7 course tasting menu with the premium wine paring. Everything was excellent and we really enjoyed our wonderful service from an exceptional team. Manuel the sommelier was very knowledgeable and really enhanced our dining experience. Highly recommended. It is a wonderful experience in an incredible setting. Not to be missed if you are in this beautiful region of the Alentejo. Muito Obrigado!Visited October 2023Traveled with familyWritten October 18, 2023
- Paul B254 contributionsThe scale of the operation is very impressiveThe scale of the operation is incredibly impressive with a huge production. The tour was worthwhile and our guide gave us many interesting bits of information about the vineyard and its operation. The most intersting part was the tour inside the cellars where both barrels and bottles were stored, including a small area of the owner's private collection - would have loved to try some. The tour ended with a tasting session of 4 different wines.Visited July 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten July 13, 2024
- ontheroadoftenArlington, Virginia78 contributionsWinery tour was solid. Restaurant is absolutely terrific.Wonderful experience. Had lunch after a winery tour. We ordered the 5 Moments menu, which was a lot of food. Delicious cuisine, artfully presented, with warm and welcoming staff. An added bonus: the chef came out after the meal, greeted guests at each table, and asked us about our favorite dish. Definitely recommend this restaurant!Visited August 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten August 20, 2024

This was one of the highlights of our trip to Portugal and am so glad I made a reservation for the vineyard tour and the restaurant. Both were incredible. Carina, who led the tour knew everything about wine. She was lively, delightful and knowledgable. We loved learning about the organic wine making, seeing all the machinery (both old and new) and the cellars. After 90 mins, we tasted wine on a terrace which was beautiful. Then to kill 30 mins before our lunch, we rode their bikes around. The lunch, was probably the most visually beautiful meal I have ever eaten and the flavors were equally spectacular. We scoffed when the waited recommended 2 servings of the breads (for 4 of us) -- do it! It was the best bread ever and didn't spoil our enjoyment of our meal. It was a 2.5 hour lunch overlooking the vineyards under a covered patio. It was so special.

Excellent visit!! You pay 18 euros per adult, the visit lasts approximately 1:15 minutes. Well explained, Nuno introduced us to each stage of the winery, with a lot of patience! The tasting of 4 wines at the end: 2 whites (harvest and reserve) and 2 reds (same thing). There is a restaurant at the winery itself, in the same place where the wines are sold (it is not the expensive, Michelin-starred one, where lunch is served in stages; it is next door). The visit is better than the one at Cartuxa, which is extremely commercial and rotates to attract more tourists!

This was a very high-end, luxury winery. The moment you stepped into the winery, you felt like you were in a spa as it had a very zen feel to it. We went to the bar and sat in the courtyard to sample some wines (a la cart prices) with a cheese platter. The wines were very good, with reasonable prices per glass, ranging from ~3 euros to ~8 euros (I think). You could find many decent wines in the 4-7 euro range, including a glass of their amphora wine. The atmosphere is very chic. The shop does not have a lot of souvenirs to bring back home, but has a huge selection of wines and olive oils, etc. Of note, we did not do a tour or lunch at this winery, just walked into the bar and ordered various glasses, which was no problem at all.

We had the 5 course lunch with the matching wines. All the dishes were amazing and the staff were very friendly and knowledgeable about all the courses. The sommelier has fantastic telling us all about he wines, the regions and the ex head wine maker who happened to be Australian.
Our favourite dish was the heirloom tomato salad with verbena granita was awesome on exceptionally hot day.

We had a vineyard tour followed by a tasting, then a degustation lunch. Quite easily the best wine tour I’ve been on. Our guide, Paulo, was just outstanding, and clearly deeply immersed in the process. His explanations of all the varied aspects of the different techniques used in the production of different wines were clear and greatly informative. Tge cellars we’re fascinating. The tasting, excellent.
All followed buy a superb lunch in the restaurant which recently received a Michelin star. Beautiful restaurant with great views over the Estate. The head chef is only 29, and does wonderful things with local, and sustainable produce.
All in all, a truly wonder way to spend a day in rural Portugal

The place is very beautiful; the visit very interesting. Our guide masterfully explained, in addition to the production process of white and red wines, how Talha and Pisa wines are produced on foot, which continues to this day. The explanation is very rich. The tasting was great!!

We arrived at Herdade do Esporão on a Monday at 3:26 pm. The starred Herdade restaurant was closed (not open on Sundays and Mondays). What a surprise it was to learn that there was a wine bar with lunch and especially that they would accept us at 3:26 pm as the kitchen closed at 3:30 pm! We did the surprise menu and it was AMAZING! Firstly: we were very well looked after at reception and by the staff who served us at the Joana e Vasco wine bar! Two dear ones who made our experience even more incredible. The menu was perfect, spectacular service, top-notch food. Herdade do Esporão won my heart.

Trip Tip: avoid buying olive oils locally because some are definitely more expensive than in any hypermarket in the country!! Example: bottle of oil “virgem extra” sold for more than 68€ against less than 50€ in hypermarket!!

Yesterday (08/26/23), I was at Herdade do Esporão with my family (husband, young children and sister-in-law) for a visit and wine tasting. The place is beautiful, the service is excellent and the food is delicious! I highlight the friendliness and professionalism of the tour guide Anabela and the waiters Rubem and Vasco! I would like to thank you for making our day super pleasant and special! I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to go for a walk and taste good wine and good food!

We booked a wine tour and tasting as we had previously visited the site many years ago before it as full established. Lewis gave a superb tour. He was very knowledgeable and very friendly. This was the best winery visit that we’ve ever done. The tasting and the lunch were excellent too. We can’t recommend this enough.

posso de ir de onibus de lisboa a herdade do esporão
Written January 24, 2023
