.... and this is the case of the San Leolino "pieve" in Panzano In fact we learn from historical sources that this isn't a church like so many, but a "pieve". Namely, a church which - at least in Northern and Central Italy - in the early Middle Ages and up to the XII century (when it is gradually replaced... More

This is a pretty church, and if you are already doing something in Panzano, it is worth a visit. It is located at the very top of the hill on the main street through town, so a pretty hard walk if you have parked on or near SS222. It has some nice art, but not a lot of it.

We arrived to part take in mass. Instead we lite our candles and I had no prayers available only a sence of lightness. A spartan church, just how I love them.

That people can retain a lifestyle so fundamentally sound and relatively undistracted for as long as is mirrored in their simple yet sturdy local church seems both amazing and inspirational. We visit the calm; their life is infused in it. Here similar establishments share in small portions each, enough to maintain a lifestyle with generally little fixation about needing much... More

Panzano is in the center of Chianti and San Leolino is an example of a small church dating back about 900 DC at least. It's small of course, but it is characteristic of the period. The view from the front toward the Chianti valley is as close to a medieval scene as you can find in the 21st century. But... More

The beautiful ancient stone church (> 1,000 years) is at the end of the town and is religious jewel of Panzano. It's storied facade speaks to you as you marvel at what it must have witnessed. Pleasant grounds and garden with nice panoramic vistas. Fine interior with well worn wooden pews. ...

What a beautiful little church. I had a good look around and found it very peaceful. I would recommend visiting.
