Beautiful small town next to the Adriatic Sea with lots to see in the surrounding area. Affordable nice restaurants of very high quality. Fresh seafood is their specialty. We rented an apartment that was beautiful, hundreds of years old with high vault ceilings for an unbelievable cost of 55 euros a night. So nice, we plan to return this year in Autumn.

Polignano a Mare is a dmall town in the province of Bari.
The old medieval town is only a few hectares in size and has many narrow alleys. There are two squares, Piazza San Benedetto and Piazza Vittorio Emanuelle II where the church of Santa Maria Assunta is located.
The town is definitely worth a visit, take at least one or two hours.

Polignano a Mare is a precious gem kissed from a blue and emerald green sea, breathtaking rocks and views, small cafes and restaurant and the old city that is"la fine del mondo".Flowers everywhere, loads of events in summer and this is actually the only place I want to see everytime I go home...it it's road and sea I can lose myself.Only a negative note:car parking is so disorganized! No signals and is so easy to get fined, especially for foreign tourists.Road signals(center, lama monachile, centro storico)are difficult to find if you're not a local but there are too many signals for restaurants and shops.Always be beautiful and maintain it!

The town is really beautiful, I love it, but.
There are so many tourists that it's like a youth vacation trip to Rimini instead. Also if I compare to other Puglia cities we went the prices are all based on tourist prices, a lot more expensive then Bari for example. Such a shame, they want to create something like Gran Canaria or Barcelona, what also brings a lot of drunk tourists.
For the food, location tip is included what can add up like an extra 3 euro per person. Ridiculous

I visited this lovely town 9 years ago and eventually returned with my husband. Goodness me what a difference. Tuktuks crowds of men on street corners, a fair ground ride in the middle of town. Not to mention the rubbish cigarette stubs and dog fouling. I wont be rushing back

Polignano a Mare is a beautiful little town. You'll be surprised how charming the white houses in town beautifully designed with flowers and quotes written on some stairs. It's nice a walk around then stop for some drinks and watch the sunset.

Polignano a Mare is one of the small seaside towns in the southern region of Puglia. This is a much overlooked area but will surely be the next big thing. This lovely town has everything you could possibly want. Shops, restaurants, clubs, stunning views of the gorgeous Adriatic sea and a charming old town and lots of pizza and gelato. The weather is also perfect, warm with a nice ocean breeze. Since we were on a tour going to many small towns, Polignano is a good central location to other towns. Bari, the capital of Puglia was only 25 minutes away by train. Our tour bus took us to Trani, Matera and Alberbello in about an hour. I thought it was all very convenient. This is a perfect little city with very nice people and lovely surroundings. I would highly recommend a visit. Can't wait to go back.

We were here just for a day but was more than enough to fall in love with the amazing green colour of the Adriatic Sea. The balconies builded above the sea offered to us the most spectacular view I ever saw.
Also one of the beaches even it is not a sandy one has the right to wear the blue flag (witch already has).
Polignano a Mare it's a tiny town, very clean, full of history with streets when you can breath an authentic italian air. Maybe was the sun fault but here we felt like in an old italian movie.
To see more of this jewel from the Adriatic Sea, to understand more I advice you to stop first at the info point (about 200-300 meters from the railway station). It's there a very passioned lady who love to tells you about she's city, who gives you maps and point it important places and speaks pretty good english.
And by the way for italian music lovers : this is the birth city of the great singer Domenico Modugno ( Volare, o-o, Cantare, o-o-o) :)
