After passing the Arco Marchesale, the obvious entrance of the old town, the Piazza dell'Orologio was a real surprise - we did not expect it to be so spacious, the surrounding streets were so narrow.
The square got its name from a town clock. It is located on the upper part of an elegant building. The square was teeming with life, with a lot of souvenir shops and cafes. The Chiesa Matrice Santa Maria Assunta in Cielo dominated the square, with a simple but elegant facade and a robust bell tower. We had an impression that the church was under renovation.

The heart of Polignano, whit all the places (bar/restaurant/pizzeria) located along the perimeter. It's famous for the view of the ex cathedral and the watch building.

We lingered here briefly – but moved on fairly quickly. It felt like a bit of a tourist trap with several restaurants displaying their multi-lingual menus around the edge of this decent sized piazza. The architecture is lovely, as with many other old town centres, but we were looking for lunch and, put off by the commerciality of those on offer, we moved on. Shame about the clock tower still encased in scaffolding.
Once again I dread to imagine what this place must be like in the main summer season – too crowded, and too hot I'm sure.

You simply cannot miss this while walking through the historical town, strolling from one narrow street to another balcony with stunning sea views.

Most pleasant early and late....gets very crowded with visitors. Mostly Italian but other nationalities of course. Although busy the immediate restaurants receive mixed reviews from their captive audience. We ALWAYS avoid and search out a gem further from the centre. As soon as you go over the bridge normal Puglia resumes, but you need to be subdued, able to blend into the background and not order cappuccinos after midday!!

The clock tower which can hardly be seen for the cafe awnings in front of it is under renovation and is unlikely to be seen in 2018.

The piazzas in this town are good for people watching and for a gelato but are nothing special. The seaside walks are what the town is good for.

This is the first square you encounter when you step into the city.
The pavement shine, the white of the surrounding houses and the cosy atmosphere of such quaint buildings really catch your sight. First taste of an unforgettable stroll in one of the most beautiful little towns in Italy.

It's worth mentioning that Polignano's charm comes more from its narrow streets than its squares, but this is a nice square nonetheless. It was a bit deserted in January, but attractive nonetheless. Also quite hard to miss while strolling through the town.

Really nice Piazza in Polignano A Mare. You can walk all around this picturesque little seaside town and often find you're back at this beautiful Piazza. Definitely worth a visit.
