About

Well, being an"active retirees" we consider every trip as a bucket list tour. We did it as a detour on our way to Garda lake
To get into Theodolinda chapel you have to book a tour in advance.
It's easy. I asked the lady on the reception in the hotel we stayed in to call and book it for me. There is no internet booking. So, it was done in 5 minutes for the next day
They have guided tour in English as well. It certainly worth a visit. The Capella is inside the Monza's Cathedral, nicely restored.
The ceremony of the extraction of the Holy Roman Empire's crown is quite impressive.
Look, listen and memorise for you are not allowed to take pictures.
And as a bonus there is a really good bakery across the Piazza.

Opted for this over the museum tour. So glad I did. Ticket staff were extremely helpful and gave me couple of English pamphlets to read prior to tour of the chapel and crown. Got more out of the tour as a result.
Seeing the Iron Crown is THE primary reason for this tour though the story of the queen is interesting too. This is the same crown used to coronate Charlemagne, Charles V and Napoleon!
Highly recommended 30 minute tour.
Note that photos are not allowed inside the chapel.

Charming
In this small chapel you are kidnapped by the description of the guide while you look at the frescoes that contains together with his most precious treasure, enclosed in his tabernacle.
not to be missed

Visited in January 2018. 8 Euros. Tour of the Chapel was short at 30 minutes but very informative and interesting as we saw and were told of the history concerning the frescoes. When this has been completed the "Iron Crown" is then revealed and again details (part fact and part myth) are given. When the lights are dimmed to show the crown and its history I did find this atmospheric.
Most certainly I would recommend the tour. We did not visit the museum but did visit the Duomo itself, which again is well worth a look.

You can enter the chapel only with a 30 minute guided tour. 8 euros well spent as the guide explains the various frescoes along with the story of teodolinda. The crown will be shown last.
I recommend booking the tour in advance because places are limited. There are various tours throughout the day in english too

The Dome at all is beautiful, but inside - on the left side - the "cappella di Teodolinda" is more than fantastic! After the restoration of frescos the chapel became a unique pearl!
We were happy because we arrived in time and have got the guided tour at 2 pm - it was really a great experience. The guide was excellent! The famous historic iron crown has made an unusual impression. Of course, no photo or video. After the chapel we visited the museum - breathtaking...!!!! Everybody should see it!

The Chapel of Theodelinda is located inside the Cathedral of Monza.
The chapel was built in the 13th century and it is fully painted with a frescoes, work by Ambrogio and Gregorio Zavattari (1444).
The frescoes tell the history of life of Theodelinda: her marriage with Autari (589), (king of the Lombards, son of king Cleph) and her second marriage with Agilulf (591).
In the Chapel is there also the famous Iron Crown of Lombardy used for the coronation rite for the kings of Italy.
