About Discover France
Discover France is a leader in self-guided cycling tours and active vacations in France & beyond. We have organized self-guided vacations for tens of thousands of people since 1994. So what exactly does it mean to go on a self-guided tour? In a self-guided tour, we book the hotels, provide the bikes and equipment, arrange luggage transfers and provide on-site support. You travel with the people that you book with, and choose your own pace. Navigation is done with a GPS device, and you also have printed roadbooks with maps and turn-by-turn instructions to have complementary navigation options throughout your tour. We provide support services 7/7 days of the week, and can intervene to help with problems anywhere in France. Choosing a self-guided hike or bike tour saves costs while still providing convenience and professional support throughout your trip. Feel free to read the reviews to see what other travelers have most appreciated.

Terrific. The bicycle routes were very well planned out. Even though it was March and sometimes rainy, the countryside and seashore towns we bicycled through were lovely with the impending arrival of spring.

Just be warned, casual/hobby is not accurate. When you ask for help you don't get it. They point to the small print to protect themselves. I didn't feel they had my best interests at heart

Alison, I am sorry to learn that you were disappointed with the tour. We discussed the matter with our Tour Consultants to see if we had received any negative feedback. We are having a hard time figuring out which tour you did with us? Were you in contact with your dedicated tour consultant to express your dissatisfaction? When did you travel with us? It would help us to identify the exact itineraries and region in order to evaluate the classification of the tour that you did. It is important for us to be able to improve our services and correct flaws. The casual/hobby/active/pro classification is a somewhat subjective scale, as different persons perceive the levels differently. In order to make the terms more objective, we have indicated the distances and elevation gain (how much climbing on a route) for all our tours. To further facilitate understanding the daily profiles, an elevation profile is provided on the website. To further guarantee that all details of the trip are in order, each traveler has a dedicated tour consultant that goes through the details of the trip with them. It enables both sides to discuss the specifics of the trip and avoid misunderstandings. As documentation sometimes remains unread, our guides go through the details of the trip, including itineraries, during the orientation on the first day. If problems occur during the trip, our support phone is available 7 days per week to answer questions and arrange solutions in case of difficulties. If the itinerary feels too challenging, our support service can propose options such as upgrading to an e-bike, organize a transfer to the next hotel etc. The safety of the support service is a big part of our self-guided tours and is meant to provide the sense of reassurance that navigating a foreign country otherwise may lack. There are always solutions. Our tour consultants contact all clients while they are on our tours. While we are available, our ability to provide solutions is often dependent on being informed by the clients. We wish you would have contacted us during your stay in order for us to make sure the trip met the expectations. If it is possible, we would much appreciate it if you could be in touch with us to let us know more in detail how we could improve, in order to make our trips better.

This experience far exceeded my expectations and I admit I can be very picky. Our accommodations were often spectacular, the meals delicious, the equipment top notch with stunning sites/routes and gracious local residents. The tour staff were exceedingly patient, professional, and personable. The routes were clearly developed by people who know the area and each day was a fresh adventure and delight. There is no way I could have planned it myself via internet information. Enjoyed the additional information regarding route elevations and special restaurant/bakeries, market days, and events. Thank you Maggie!!

Thank you for this review! The Loire Valley Castles Deluxe trip is fantastic. We are really happy to hear that the route selection was to your liking, as it is something we value a lot... being able to provide routes that do not follow the typical paths Google Maps or other automated routes would suggest. I will pass on your review to Maggie as well. Have a great winter and thank you once again!

Discover France arranged a wonderful trip for me and my wife (both in our late 50s) that started in Vienna, continued with six days of bike riding and sightseeing in the Czech Republic and ended with three days in Prague. We had a great time seeing the sights in Vienna and took a 3-hour train ride to Breclav where we were met by our driver who took us to our first overnight destination. We rode from town to town, staying 1 or 2 nights at each location. They provided us good bikes with everything we needed - maps, GPS, cell phone, directions, etc. My wife opted for an electric bike and is glad she did since there were days with 2,000 feet of climbing and 30 miles of riding. It was just the right amount of exercise and left plenty of time to stop and see castles, rivers, remnants of the iron curtain, and endless fields of wheat, woods, and villages. The itinerary was detailed and had plenty of choices of stops to eat and see. We never got lost! We learned so much about the history of the region, from the Neolithic through freedom from communism. I can't thank Discover France and their local CZ partner, Greenways, enough for putting together this trip. We did it in June (great weather), and we keep reminiscing about all the memories. Thank you!

Thank you for posting this review! Our apologies for taking so long for us to respond and thank you. It sounds like the trip was even better than you expected. Just reading about the fields of wheat, woods and villages in the peak of summer makes me want to do the trip. Have a great winter, and hopefully we get the chance to organize another trip for the two of you another time! Best regards, The whole team from Discover France

This is the 2nd tour with Discover France for my fiance and I. We had previously done a tour in the Loire Valley and we both thought the scenery was much better in Provence. Discover France was great in letting us combine the Provence Multisport with their Mt Ventoux/Luberon Tour. The cycling in western Provence was good, but the cycling around Bedoin and Gordes was world class. In particular, we did an epic 55 mile loop through Gorge Nesque and up Mt Ventoux, which is the best ride I have ever done. If you are worried about the hills rent an e-bike; my fiance did and loved it. We had an issue with a tire on my fiances bike at the beginning of the tour, but the emergency number was responsive and had a technician fix the problem. However, I thought the communication with the regular customer service could have been better. In hindsight, I should have followed up more on my requests (GPX routes, laundry availability, etc). I take responsibility for mixing up my orientation time with a different tour. Overall, the lodging was great, dining recommendations were spot on, and the bikes were high quality. We would enjoy using Discover France again for a third tour.

Hi Mark, Thank you for taking the time to write the review here on Tripadvisor. Every region in France indeed has it's own charm, and the Loire Valley is very different from riding in Provence. We agree with you on the world class cycling around Mont Ventoux. It's hard to get tired of the views in the Gorges de la Nesque. The Mont Ventoux in itself is a challenge, but oh so rewarding. Regarding the requests for gpx-routes, laundry availability and other questions, we will make sure that next time we can be more reactive. Maybe we could even share the gpx-routes with you in advance of the trip and find out laundry availability - as those needs might be present next time as well? We welcome all feedback and really appreciate that clients take the time to let us know what we can do better. Thank you once again for having traveled with us several times, and we hope to see you back with us again soon!
