A thoroughly enjoyable experience! Very friendly staff give a short history of the working distillery. You are then invited to taste some (very generous) measures of the various anis liqueurs and absinthe. They provided a non alcoholic anis drink for those not drinking alcohol. Delicious. As well as the liqueurs, they have very nice souvenirs for sale including engraved glasses and gift packs.

Interesting visit to a small distillery, friendly staff who gave us a tasting and explanation of what they made. Their English slightly better than our French, however they have leaflets in English that give the history and the process. Try their fir liqueur, very weird.

This is one of two distillieries in Pontarlier producing Aniseed (Think Pernod) and Absinthe spirits and Liqueurs. We were a group of twenty odd people of 4 different languages but the guide coped very well with the help of other members ofthe staff and those of us who spoke more than one language. Generally the french are as bad as the English at not knowing other languages; but not here. The place is surprisingly small and it was quiote a squeeze to get us all in. We were taken through the history of making spirits and liqueurs; the banning of absinthe during the First World War (to much can drive you mad and it is rather adictive). Production was only allowed again a few years ago. We were told about the blending and maceration to make the liqueurs and shown how the 'green fairy' is produced in the ritual of pouring your absinthe over a spoon onto a lump of sugar. The range of products on sale was amazing, bur remember that all these spirits are very strong, so take it carefully!
There's a lovely old vine climbing up the wall of the adjacent office building.

Travelled there specially to see the distillery, however it is very confusing just to find your way in. Having requested a tour I was told just to walk around and have a look. There was approx 3 barrels being filled, so went to have a taste. The annoyed women asked me why I wasn’t seeing the tour, so I was really confused. Try here we’re no signs of where to walk or any organisation to facilitate this. I got annoyed and left. I actually bought a bottle from the local supermarket instead just to get out of there. Was glad to leave after the annoying woman.

A basic distillery of spirit. But an interesting place to visit to learn the full history of Absinthe. Also to see the many various styles of Abdinthe.
