Nesebar for example is more comercial and loud. Old Szozool has a biger area of old town and the ritm of the place is more human. There are a lot of locals realy lived in those buildings, cooking sweets or just looking people passing by. The restaurants can be very good, surprising and a lot of them has realy extraordinary views. There are shops for every kind of tastes or pockets, there are 2 artistic gallery with works from well known bulgarian artists, and of course, there are 3-5 artisanat shops. Also one or two winery, with great local wines and a lot of cosmetic shops with the national production of rose creams and soaps

Lovely little hill town to walk through. Keep your eyes out for little walkways that you can see the sea through. Lots of wooden and stone/wooden houses built in the traditional manor. Lots of tour buses stop here, so you do get waves of people coming through. If you arrive early or stay later in the afternoon there are fewer tourist groups.

You can make a thousand walks in the picturesque old town and you will still want more. The best part is that it is positioned right at the sea so you can enjoy the sunset over the sea while you enjoy a walk in the old town.
You have a choice of many top restaurants so you can enjoy a different nice place to eat every night. An important thing to note is that most restaurants are traditional but Bulgarian food is so tasty.

Disappointed.
We took the trip from St. Vlas via Sunny Beach.
The monastery was a waste of time. Just old rundown buildings with little to see.
The river trip is highly over rated. Jungle like? You're having a laugh!! Only saw a few turtles on logs. Yes, very nice gentle cruise down the river. But I expected something more than anything we can easily get in the UK.
Sozopol was a real let down, especially after having spent a day already in Nessebar, which is by far much better. There's little there too see in comparison, and what we did see we didn't know much about as the tour guides were only interested in getting us into a wide tasting shop. The meal provided, though, was very good.
Bourgas shopping / siteseeing stop was awful. Why bring is here??? The place had no character at all.
As for the tour guides, 1 spoke Bulgarian, another Polish and one, English. Only, the English guide hardly ever spoke whilst the two others hogged the microphone between them the whole time.
Never again.

Local shops, restaurants and narrow streets are the scenario. We went to the old town twice during our stay and the feeling is that we didn't see everything yet. The evenings are bubbly with streets and restaurants completely busy so, avoid going there after 6pm if you want to see all the nuances in place. Walk through the restaurants in front of the see. They are busy but everyone does it and the view is amazing.

Nice and cozy old town with charming houses
and streets. Lots of good, local food and
restaurants with charm and atmosphere. This
point is important for me: The waiters are not
pushy and trying to get you into their
restaurants. It's not stressful. We mostly sunbathe at Sozopol Central Beach, but also visited two of the other beaches nearby the Old Town. All of them were full of cigarettes, plastics and rubbish. People just threw their waste were they sat, plus digging their cigarettes down in the sand. No one picked up waste of any sort, even though it was right next to their beach towel. This has to be changed in order to protect the nature, and to get tourists to come.

The perfect house for a perfect vacation
The studio we rented was furnished in retro chic, with a kitchenette and a balcony with a staggering view of the sea and the cliffs. It was very clean and comfortable with a genuinely artistic atmosphere. Hosts are super friendly and food at the restaurant was so delicious. Would be definitely coming back!

When I arrived in the country, I immediately rented a car for localrent (I found this service on the revieweek website). It's a pleasure to drive around Bulgaria by car. We also came to Sozopol by car, but we walked a lot, it was quiet and peaceful. We liked it very much.

Fascinating mix of craft, leather, antique, and souvenir shops and the like, extensive enough for ambling around for hours even. Lovely church of Cyril and Methodius is worth a visit in the centre and some remains of a monastery nearby to view, and plenty of places to stop for a drink or a meal. Some of the small medieval pattern streets with archetypal wooden houses give the place a unique and authentic historic feel.

One could spend here a day not more, there are plenty of restaurants and some see activities. The View is very nice, some of the old houses are charming. But I'm if you are looking for a high quality vacation you should look elsewhere. Restaurants, coffee shops and other businesses are very basic up to low level.

I believe the bus services are good. However truthfully I drove in a hired car to get there.

We are considering a trip to the Sozopol area. I am wondering if anyone experienced a lot of ongoing construction? Nothing worse than arriving to your place of relaxation to be met with cement mixers and jackhammers. Thanks for your time.

We stayed at The Laguna Beach Hotel and Spa on the outskirts of Sozopol. This area is being developed, but not overly so. Sozopol itself, and the Old town in particular, has little construction work on going. Bulgaria is pulling itself out of decades of communist rule and is only just starting to see the benefits of EU funding. If you go don't miss Ravadinovo Castle, a must for all ages.

You can Go from Sunny beach to Burgas and then to Sozopol, from Sunny Beach to Burgas bus station ticket price is 4 lev. And from Burgas bus station to Sozopol also 4 lev ( so about 4 eur all Your journey). And it is easy to travel, because in Burgas station You will get out from one bus and there are bus to Sozopol at the same place.

Most people know restaurants. So find a restaurant in old town and ask the locals to point you in the right direction.
