We visited Rancho La Merced twice, first to do a self-guided hike through their rainforest and the next day my wife and I did a morning beach horseback ride. The hike was great, the trail is not too strenuous but long enough to feel like you accomplished something by the end. I would say that if you are not a... More

Wow what an amazing experience! We started out on the ranch and made our way to the beach. The horses knew where to go, as will be described further later on. Esteven our guide, was really great. Once he saw that we had a little bit of experience (we had each been on a horse about 4-5 times), he gave... More

My wife and I went on a horseback ride through the mangroves and then on to beautiful Playa Ballena. As a hotel owner in Southern Zone of Costa Rica, I highly recommend this tour to our guests, due to La Merced's employees professional attitude and their meticulous care of their animals. Great value tour in Southern Costa Rica! -John and... More

Excellent place for one person or the whole family, for horseback riding. One ride is on the beach the other to a waterfall.

My husband, ten-year-old son, and I did a sunset ride on the beach. We have varying levels of experience and the ride was perfect for all of us. I was able to gallop along the beach while my husband and son took a slower ride and enjoyed the sunset. The horses were well trained and our guide, Leandro, pointed out... More

Four of us took a horse back trip up to the waterfall led by Hector. He spoke great English and the horses were very well trained. The scenery was beautiful and Hector pointed out wildlife and flora/fauna, taking the time to explain things as we rode. A perfect trip for those seeking a little more adventure, great for younger children.

Our family took a sunset ride on the beach with Leandro! What an experience. There are very few places in the world that you can ride a horse in the ocean surf at sunset. Leandro was wonderful at pointing out various animals and trees in the area. We were allowed to run the horses along the beach and enjoy the... More

The journey and the waterfall at the end it's very fun. It takes about an hour to ride to the waterfall. The ranch provides helmets and other necessary equipment. The only thing that was worries one was that the horses got very irritated when another got to close. Otherwise they are very well trained and know the path well.

Galloping on the beach at sunset - isn't that every horse crazy little girl's dream? I am not exactly a little girl any more but it was a dream come true. This tour did not disappoint. Esteban was our guide. There was just myself and another couple. (this was not the tour for my husband!). The horses were very well... More

We took the beach horseback ride with Esteban as our guide. The entire ride was absolutely wonderful. Esteban did a great job of stopping and pointing things out as we rode to the beach. Once we got to the beach, Esteban let us trot, canter, gallop as much or as little as we wanted, unlike in the US, where if... More
