    Be warmly welcomed and educated!
We met Ronnie at Oreo Verde and set off to explore his family’s wonderful property. Following the road and also paths that wound through the forest, we spotted many birds and had time to enjoy them in their natural habitat. We were not simply racing around trying to see as many birds as possible. We were locating and identifying birds and watching them move and sing. In this way, we felt that we really absorbed new knowledge about each bird. We had time to take photos. We had time to look the bird up in our book and learn how it was differentiated from similar species. For us, this is what makes us feel like we are really earning the right to say that we saw X numbers of new birds. It is the experience that goes with it! After several hours and dozens of birds added to our records, we were invited to go back to Ronnie’s home where his wife cooked us the most fabulous breakfast we had eaten in Costa Rica. The warmth of their beautiful, welcoming home and meeting their daughters was such a lovely, memorable experience! I would highly recommend this activity for anyone interested in learning more about the birds and customs of Costa Rica. We are thankful to Ronnie and his family for making us feel so included in their world!

    So great, we went twice!
We went snorkeling to Caño Island with the wonderful crew and our guide, Michael Chebus. It was such a great trip that we booked a second day trip before we left Costa Rica. It was So beautiful and the crew spotted dolphins on the boat rides. Michael was fantastic about pointing out fish and sharks and turtles and was very good with our kids, ages 6 and 10. Thank you for making this a definite highlight of our trip.

    Sierpe Mangrove Boat Tour
My 2 sisters and I booked the Sierpe Mangrove Boat Tour through the Uvita Information Center - the tour operator is La Perla del Sur. This is the 3rd year in a row we've taken this approximately 3-hour tour and we've loved it each time. It's a different experience each time and a great opportunity to see lots of wildlife up close (birds, bats, monkeys, turtles, crocodiles, snakes, etc.). Our guides were knowledgeable and the boat was comfortable - it was just us (not a group tour). Uvita Information Center makes booking online easy.

Efficient online booking; the trip operators they suggested were excellent. We used Perla del Sur for two private river trips, rebooking a second time because we enjoyed it so much. Wildlife viewing on the Sierpe river was outstanding, in large part because of the highly skilled guides and captains. We had booked the trip for kayaking…they suggested we change to a canopied pontoon boat to escape the sun and make photography easier….we’re glad they did.

We also booked an early morning bird walk with Oro Verde through them. The property owner and guide, Ronald, was pleasant, knowledgeable and helpful.
While there are lots of interesting birds, you’ll need good binoculars (he offers them) or a good camera with a high quality and long telephoto lens to get the most out of the experience.

We (two 60+ adventurers) had a wonderful time with Ronnie exploring the forests in Oro Verde, a preserve set up by his generous family. Ronnie carried a telescope that he quickly set up to help us find golden-naped woodpeckers, long-billed gnatwren and many other birds. Bring binoculars and shoes with good traction, as trails were often covered with wet leaves. The trails were mostly level with occasional climbs. He also knew where to find a camouflaged streak-chested Anitpitta that was nestled at the base of a tree. After three hours of wandering in the forest, we drove to Ronnie’s home, where his wife had prepared a delicious Costa Rican breakfast. We met his charming daughters and as we left a laughing falcon soared overhead. A truly wonderful adventure.

Sadly we never got to take part in the tour. Firstly we we're asked to change time/day as the day before our tour booking, the guide had advised the agency he was no longer available. We rearranged for our final afternoon in Uvita at 3pm. Just before 2pm we received a message asking to change to 4pm, which wasn't overly convenient as we were already in the area for the tour, but we hung around and headed there for 4pm. It's a challenging road to drive to the location definitely requiring a 4x4 and could do with better signage as we had to ask neighbours twice for directions. Upon arrival a neighbour came over with her phone and the guide advised that he was delayed on a course and if we came back at 6pm he'd do it for free. I appreciated his gesture but there was no way we were going to drive that road in the dark or hang around for another 2 hours. I get that these things can happen but we should never have been booked for a tour when he was on a course with no set finish time. The cancellation was handled really poorly. We wasted our last afternoon in the area and were left with two disappointed children.

The Uvita Information Centre were very apologetic and have given us a full refund.

We started early in the morning to drive to Sierpe. We got a good introduction to find the meetingpoint and what we had to take with us for the tour.
The group was lovely and our guide knew a lot about fauna and flora. We started with a boat trip of 1.5h to get to Corcovado Nationalpark. After getting there we had a two hour walk along the beach and in the forest nearby. We saw many lovely animals and our guide explained not only them, also about their relation with the local plants. After lunch we walked approx 30min along a creek to a waterfall and in a pool nearby we had a cooling bath which was very refreshing. When we headed backwards with the boat, we turned through the mangrove woods.
All in all we very much appreciated this tour which gave us a great insight to the southern part of Costa Rica.

Deiner was able to give me a private tour of his family's coffee farm. It was on top of a mountain with the most amazing views. He showed and gave detailed explanations of how the beans were grown, harvested, and processed. It was an interactive tour - I helped pick the beans, separate the dry beans from the hulls on the mountainside, and remove bad beans from a pile.

This is a family run operation and a lot of their machines were "McGivered." You can feel the love that the family has for their coffee. I ended up buying four bags of the coffee!

I was welcomed into his home by his family, where I shared a meal, fresh coffee, and a snack. I highly recommend this tour for anyone looking for a real Costa Rican experience.

Fun day full of wildlife sightings! Our tour guide was amazing. He was always there giving more information on the animals or fish we saw or about the island we were on. The walking tour guide was also super knowledgeable. We saw crocodiles, a taper (very rare!), a quati, spider monkeys, howler monkeys, turtles, dolphins and a wide variety of fish. Fun day!

The folks at the Uvita Information Center are fantastic. I went through them for both a car rental from the airport as well as a Manuel Antonio Nature Park guided tour. We had the best experiences with both!! The car rental save me $550 from ABODE which was recommended by a blogger and the tour was better then we could have ever imagined, that came with directions, parking and the best tour guild, Wilber Jarquin from Nature Walks Costa Rica!! Definitely use them if you are going to Uvita or Ojochal! Best experience.

Our 2.5 hour Chocolate tour was very enjoyable and educational. Ronald has planted 70 chocolate trees on his property in Playa Hermosa near Uvita. He showed us the entire process from tree, to pod, to seed and finally to a tasty hot chocolate. It was definitely a hands on demonstration. Ronald takes great pride in making sure his chocolate is pure and of the highest quality. He followed the procedures of the indigenous people while he explained their methods and uses for the cacao bean.We roasted the beans, shelled them, and ground them up into a paste. When added to warmed milk it was delicious. We were very pleased with this tour. The only negative would be trying to find the property. But once there it was very good.

Alejandra worked with me via email in planning our trip to the Uvita area. She always responded quickly and was patient with all of my questions. We booked private transportation from SJO, car rental, Corcovado overnight, Oro Verde, Cano Island and Marino Ballena snorkeling tours with Alejandra's assistance. All of the tour operators were fantastic. Our trip was perfect and I couldn't have planned it without Alejandra's expertise. Thank you so much Alejandra!

We did the nighttour with the 2 brothers Humberto and Enrique. The place was hard to find, but when we found it, the tour was amazing! We saw many frogs, spiders, sleeping birds, scorpion, snakes and a owl. The brothers know where to go, and they take the time to explain about the animals. We got enough time to make some nice photos.

The small group was a good extra! 4 persons and 2 guides.

I would really recommend this tour if you want to see the small animals!
