We are residents of Costa Rica and have done many Chocolate Tours and we loved Ronald Alpizar's Pre-Colombian Chocolate Tour. Just getting to his place is an adventure on winding, narrow dirt roads up a mountain. Upon arriving you will be met by a sincere agriculture expert, don Ronald, ready to explain how chocolate bars are made starting with the tree sapling. Don Ronald knows so much about agriculture that we got an education on many counts. He also had us all doing each step of the process from roasting the beans on an open fire, to grinding them on a
Pre-Colombian stone, to whisking the ground chocolate into boiling milk. We were then each given steamy unsweetened hot chocolate for the full experience. Delicious! As a bonus, don Ronald surprised us by taking photos of us as we worked through this process and then sent the photos to us. We also walked through his farm to see cacao trees and where the beans are dried. This tour was well worth the cost and you won't find a more friendly and informative guide than don Ronald Alpizar.

This boat tour from Sierra was really wonderful. We got to travel through the mangroves and then out to Caño Island for snorkeling. I have been snorkeling in many different locations and this was a fantastic experience. We saw turtles, sharks, fish, eels, starfish, sea cucumbers, and more. We had some time on the island and then off to a second snorkeling spot which was equally as wonderful as the first. We then were treated to a picnic lunch and back through the mangroves where we saw monkeys and a crocodile. Would definitely recommend this tour for a family!

We did the Corcovado day tour from Uvita. The whole thing was arranged brilliantly. We whatsapped the company over the weekend and they sorted us a transfer and the tour for two days later. Great communication and a really friendly driver to get us to Sierpe. At Sierpe we were met by our tour guides and taken off on our trip to san Pedrillo. The guides were brilliant and obviously very passionate about what they do. We had a good lunch and spotted lots of wildlife. A great day!

We live on a horse farm in Alabama but it was a lifelong dream to ride a horse on the beach. Thankful to have gotten to realize that dream here in Costa Rica! Thank you!

Also, we had a terrible flight experience and missed a day of our trip. They were so kind and worked us in at another time when we had to cancel and even gave us a discount on our ride. Very grateful!

Whole day trip from Sierpe to Cano Island and back. You go on speed boat through mangroves and then hit Cano Island. Snorkeling on 2 spots was excellent! We even saw turtles and sharks. On the way back some apes and also croc. Our guides were very nice and explain a lot of stuff about nature and surroundings. Highly recommended!

Efficient online booking; the trip operators they suggested were excellent. We used Perla del Sur for two private river trips, rebooking a second time because we enjoyed it so much. Wildlife viewing on the Sierpe river was outstanding, in large part because of the highly skilled guides and captains. We had booked the trip for kayaking…they suggested we change to a canopied pontoon boat to escape the sun and make photography easier….we’re glad they did.

We also booked an early morning bird walk with Oro Verde through them. The property owner and guide, Ronald, was pleasant, knowledgeable and helpful.
While there are lots of interesting birds, you’ll need good binoculars (he offers them) or a good camera with a high quality and long telephoto lens to get the most out of the experience.

We met Ronnie at Oreo Verde and set off to explore his family’s wonderful property. Following the road and also paths that wound through the forest, we spotted many birds and had time to enjoy them in their natural habitat. We were not simply racing around trying to see as many birds as possible. We were locating and identifying birds and watching them move and sing. In this way, we felt that we really absorbed new knowledge about each bird. We had time to take photos. We had time to look the bird up in our book and learn how it was differentiated from similar species. For us, this is what makes us feel like we are really earning the right to say that we saw X numbers of new birds. It is the experience that goes with it!
After several hours and dozens of birds added to our records, we were invited to go back to Ronnie’s home where his wife cooked us the most fabulous breakfast we had eaten in Costa Rica. The warmth of their beautiful, welcoming home and meeting their daughters was such a lovely, memorable experience! I would highly recommend this activity for anyone interested in learning more about the birds and customs of Costa Rica. We are thankful to Ronnie and his family for making us feel so included in their world!

The folks at the Uvita Information Center are fantastic. I went through them for both a car rental from the airport as well as a Manuel Antonio Nature Park guided tour. We had the best experiences with both!! The car rental save me $550 from ABODE which was recommended by a blogger and the tour was better then we could have ever imagined, that came with directions, parking and the best tour guild, Wilber Jarquin from Nature Walks Costa Rica!! Definitely use them if you are going to Uvita or Ojochal! Best experience.
