Overall pleased with our experience. I thought the spice tour would be overrated but it was actually really nice. We god a private tour for just us and could try lots of fruits and spices, got answers to all our questions, and the lunch provided was delicious.

Dala dala ride to the farm was interesting and biking through stone town and the forest was a nice experience. However it could have been a bit better organised. Our tour guide was late, then we had to wait for him to run some errands, collect the bikes, exchange some money and we didnt actually leave until 10AM. We waited half an hour for the dala dala, it didnt arrive so we biked to another bus stop and waited for another one. I understand this part cannot be planned as there is no timetable, but it felt like a bit of a waste of time, and we only arrived to the farm 11.30.

I did not get a proper mountain bike, but a small ladies city bike with basket, it was okay but not optimal for biking in the forest and on bumpy roads with stones everywhere.

A bit pricey and despite the waiting times and suboptimal bike, the overall experience was nice so I would still recommend it.

Thanks Sofia for your positive feedback about the tour and that the Spice Tour was above your expectation. Zanzibar is a lot about taking it easy and wait- they have another time flow here. As with the dala dala- they come when they come :) Still this is a very good way to get a true experience of Zanzibar and to avoid the hectic traffic around city center.

We took the Jambiani tour with our teenage kids and very much enjoyed ourselves. The knowledgeable Mustapha with his joyful nature took more than good care of us showing us around Jambiani village on our bicycles. Lunch at the Okala restaurant was a real treat. Probably the best food we have had in Zanzibar so far. The coconut Octopus was outstanding. All in all a memorable tour. Highly recommended.

We had a great bike tour around Zanzibar. Everything was very well organized and our guide Suleiman was very talkative and knew a lot about everything. He navigated us safely around Zanzibar in the at times chaotic traffic.
We highly recommend biking around Zanzibar with Bike Zanzibar. It is a perfect way to see this wonderful island and meeting the people. We felt at all times safe and the people are very nice.

Thank you for sharing your experience! So happy you enjoyed being with Suleiman. Both him and our other guides love to share the real Zanzibar- the food, fruit and culture and take you to places most people will not see.

Bike Zanzibar was a freeing and immersive experience. I was able to explore every corner of Stone Town and its farms. It's also a great workout - 20km of hot sun and locals calling out "jambo" excitedly. And that's only one way. It was also my first experience riding the dala dala, in which you can witness the ways locals help each other out. During the actual spice tour, I learned all about the spices I've used my whole life but never knew how/where it came from. Then I see the same spices/food in my delicious lunch. I would say this was the best tour I've tried in Stone Town and would highly recommend for those who want to see more in one day and who are not afraid to be super sweaty at the end of it. My advice: bring a big jug of water.

Happy to read you had a great day with us Sally! The dala dala we take to get out of the busy traffic but is is also a true authentic experience. And indeed it is interesting to see all spices in their natural environment. I did not know that cardamom grows on the ground for instance.

We had a fantastic trip over nine days organized by Helen and led by Suliman. We did a clockwise circuit of the island staying in lovely smaller hotels all of which were perfectly chosen by Helen. We were a couple with a 13 year old and a 75 year old grandfather. All reasonably fit and with good bike skills. mostly it is easy riding but there are a few busy parts. The spice tour was a highlight but mostly we enjoyed the beautiful beaches after a morning cycling with some swimming and beach combing. I would definitely recommend a trip organize be Helen.

We spent a wonderful 10 days riding all around Zanzibar with Juma, who is a professional cyclist and lovely man. We averaged 35 km a day and it is easy riding given the highest point in Zanzibar is 200 metres. Mostly on roads however the highlight was the riding through the farms and villages on tracks. The trip was put together by Helen who found interesting and high quality places to stay so each day was an adventure. She also included a spice tour, boat ride to snorkel, swimming with the dolphins and a tour of Stone Town. A great trip - if you're thinking of doing it - book it now!

We did the 7 day tour in November and I wish I could do it over again! This must be the best way to explore Zanzibar since you cover the whole island around- white sanded beaches, forest, hectic city life, monkeys and village life. Doing this in a taxi would be very expensive and you would not know where to find the best places. We did not expect to come so close to the local life, passing through all these villages with red clay huts, banana trees and kids welcoming us and that was a very nice experience. The off roads are amazing passing through lush areas and rain forests. One of the best days were when we crossed Chwaka Bay in a wood catamaran- with bikes and all. Our guide Juma gave us multiple choice of roads every day so we could adjust the biking to our daily status. Bike Zanzibar promised to put us in small "soulful hotels with an atmosphere" and I agree, they did. All I can complain of is that some of the lunch boxes where a little odd. All in all this trip exceeded our expectations.

Had a great experience on two single day tours last weekend with Suleiman.

The first day, we headed to Kizimkazi, a beautiful fishing village that is also home to the oldest mosque in east Africa. On the way, you will bike through two villages (Makunduchi and Kizimkazi) and get a taste for Zanzibari village life and culture. The tour included a boat ride to watch wild dolphins, though I opted to skip that portion and leave the animals to be wild in their natural habitat. Instead, we took a walk around the village and enjoyed a delicious lunch of freshly caught kingfisher at a restaurant overlooking the water. It was a beautiful and peaceful day.

The second day was to Jozani national forest, a well-known tourist spot that is home to the endemic red colobus monkey. It was cool to see monkeys playing on the ground just beneath my feet, but the real highlight of this tour was the mangrove swamp tour with Rama, a local environmentalist. After an authentic Zanzibari lunch of wali nazi (coconut rice), sardines, sautéed greens, and papaya (all of which must be eaten with your hands for the full experience!) we headed out in a wooden canoe for the mangrove swamp. Here, Rama explained the ecology of the mangrove forest and pointed out the beautiful diversity of birds that inhabit the place. Along the path back to the village, he showed me the variety of local plants which are used for medicinal purposes and explained their uses. Try brushing your teeth with the mint leaf - it is stronger than any toothpaste you have ever tasted! I was impressed with Rama's breadth of knowledge and passion for teaching about the environment.

With its natural beauty and welcoming spirit, you would think Zanzibar mostly speaks for itself! But, having a knowledgeable guide made the experience really unforgettable for me. Suleiman showed me the best of the island. He expertly guided us every step of the way (even through confusing road construction in Makunduchi), and offered tidbits and stories as we rode by. He had good instincts and always seemed to know when I was needing a break or a stop for a light snack. For me, this was really important as I would normally have just kept going without paying any attention to hydration, food, etc! - but because of the climate, you will get dehydrated faster than you think. I always felt like I was in good hands with Suleiman. Courteous, intuitive, and professional, I would highly recommend him as a guide for your adventure.

Helen in the office was also very helpful and accommodating in planning my itinerary with little advance notice. For guests without a local phone plan, she was able to communicate through Whatsapp message, which simplified communication a lot! Overall, 10/10 would recommend this experience to a friend.

My husband and I took a day trip to a spice farm where we were amazed, and sometimes surprised, but what we learned about spices and fruit. The walk through the garden tasting all of these was fabulous, and then the lunch! You can't get any more fresh than picked from the farm and right into the meal. The ride home, though needed to work off the calories, was difficult at times as we had to walk through part of the trail that was either too muddy or too difficult to traverse. We did see the monkeys and that was fun, but be prepared for a strenuous trail and busy ride through city traffic. It's worth it!

Thank you for sharing your experience with us and others considering doing the tour. Yeah we try to put together the tour with as many different experiences as possible. Indeed it is a bit strenuous in the forest but it is an indigenous forest with monkeys so we find it, as you too, being worth the exercise.
