The kids and teenagers coming to Clara Luna for "Club de niños" and English classes are such happy spirits, they really thought me how to be more playful and creative and of course I learned loads of Spanish with them. It was a real intercambio! Your ideas are always welcome, there's a lot of freedom to try out things in class. I liked the challenge of organising my own lessons and learning by doing!
I also loved the physiotherapy project and I really hope that it's still running.
The Clara Luna community felt like home immediately. The other volunteers were all so lovely, caring people and Paula is an amazing, hard-working woman with such a big heart!! I'm very thankful I got to know her and could be part of this project. Also Paulas two sons are pretty fun!
The location of the school is great, 5 minutes from the beautiful beach and the market is just across the street, so you can fill up with fresh delicious fruit and veggies even if you are on a thight schedule. Locals are so friendly and easy-going, which really enhances life quality! The only thing that made sleeping and doing yoga quite challenging at the beginning is the traffic noise. You should definitely get some ear plugs for the first week, but soon you won't need them anymore. I also recommend to stay at least two months to let yourself time to get used to Clara Luna life, get to know the kids and really have an impact.

This is one of the most meaningful experiences I had the fortune in taking a part of! Paola is amazing and the work she does in her community is so special and important! She needs volunteers to make this happen! The town itself is small, safe, and a very authentic taste of a normal Ecuadorian beach town. The ocean is beautiful and the food is good! The house that Paola rents at a very fair price to the visitors is beautiful and very comfortable! I cannot recommend this place and experience more!!

My wife and I volunteered here for 10 weeks. It was a wonderful experience. The owner is an energetic woman who's doing a fabulous job for her community and young people. She is also an excellent Spanish teacher. Deserves all the support you can give her.

Nice enough place but visited only once. I took a Spanish lesson (more like a one-on-one) from an instructor that spoke no English. Two hour lesson: $8.

My search for a Spanish school in South America was satisfied when I found Clara Luna. I enjoyed the location being so close to the beach and was able to practice what I was learning in the quiet fishing village. I took intensive course for 3 weeks, yet was able to progress at my own pace. Because the organization offers so much I was able to help with language exchange program and teach some English classes too. I really enjoyed our dinners every night. Each person cooks for the house 1 night per week, so you get to try many different dishes from everyone's different culture. Paola was always friendly, helpful and informative. Thanks!

Paola is hard working and flexible with the work, you can work 15 hours minimum a week or you can do as much as you want. You can be busy but always have the time to relax, chill with the other volunteers and feel like you are making a difference.

I had a fantastic time at Clara Luna. I spent 5 weeks there volunteering as an English teacher and helping with other activities. If you are interested in helping children, go here! It was a lot of fun and I learned a lot too. Paola, the coordinator, is great!

This has been my fourth time back at Clara Luna, and each time I have had the opportunity to things get better and better - all because of both the Director, Paola, and the generous time and talent of volunteers. Whether it be in literacy programming, ESL classes, working with communities affected by disaster or empowering other non-profits to follow in their footsteps, Clara Luna brings life and energy to absolutely every undertaking. I HIGHLY recommend supporting this grass roots movement .. take Spanish classes, participate in Intercambios (language exchange nights) and, if time permits, consider volunteering!

We really don't know all that Paula (sp) does but what a neat person she is. There is always something going on there this is the friendiest place in all to Puerto Lopez. You can meet young people for all parts of the world there. Who have come to volunteer to help out on different projects in the community. She also offers programs for the local children. It you are in Puerto Lopez and need some honest advice or guidance this should be your fist stop. Paula (sp) is a wonderful person and works so hard to help others. Marc and Barbara Bautista

I have spent a month a Clara Luna volunteering and learning Spanish. I would recommend both Clara Luna and Puerto López for volunteering and learning spanish. People living in Puerto López are friendly and it doesn't take long to feel at home. My spanish has improved and there has been many opportunities to practice. I enjoy the club de niños and teaching English as well at the other projects that come up. The volunteer housing has been great. I have had a lot of fun with the other volunteers. Paula is always very helpful and always has a smiling face.

Hi! I am confused as I look at this what Clara Luna is? I will be traveling to Ecuador with my two girls (10 and 12) and they have never traveled internationally. I would like to find place to us to volunteer or be involved in something for a few days where they could interact with other kids. It there an opportunity for us here?? We also want to explore the area. Thank you! I look forward to hearing from you. Mike
