This place was used by old inhabitants of the area to give birth. There are many unique markings in the sites, although they are estimated to be somewhat "recent" (500-800 years old). There are many delicious mangaba (taste like a tangy pear) trees here, but be careful as they attract snakes (ask someone local to pick one for you). Enjoy,

Excellent, special (almost magic) place: the landscape look almost unreal and the prehistoric paintings are one of the few opportunities in the world to have easy access to see stone-age paintings in original. A short drive from Lençois on a very rough road, this attraction is often combined with a trip to the Cachoeria de Mosquitos. Both of these sites can give those interested in archaic culture an insight into why aboringinal pepole settled here. I think any Brazilian going to Chapada should take sometime to visit the prehistoric sites. It's is such a wonderful feeling to discover all this. Everyone in our group definately enjoyed it. i hope the governement will take further care in preserving such a precious site.

Absolutely worth the trip. These drawings were only discovered in 2005! First you think of a falsification, but that's not true at all. Since their creation, the drawings have been covered with a fine layer of silica, allowing a rough estimation of their age. You can walk around and take at least over a hundred of different pictures. But mind... More
