About
It’s All About The Wine Balance is a time-honored goal in the making of premium wines and working toward balance is a way of life at Burrowing Owl Estate Winery. Founder Jim Wyse is committed to balance, well beyond that of the fine, world-class wines being produced. A kind of Hippocratic oath (“to do no harm”) underlies the creative viticultural and enological practices at Burrowing Owl.

Of the 14 wineries we visited this was one of our better wine tasting experiences. There is a non-refundable tasting fee but it is donated to a burrowing owl conservation effort. We had a reservation and were directed to a large high top circular table that could seat 6. Everyone was able to be socially distanced but the server could take care of more than 1 couple very efficiently. The wine pours were generous and very good descriptions given. We were given a decent amount of time to savour each wine as it was poured. Even although my husband is a red wine drinker he says that burrowing owl pinot gris is one of his favourite white wines. All tax and fees are included in the pricing

We purchased a bottle of pinot gris and a bottle of merlot.

The wine tasting offers very good value.

The setting and view is amazing. Plus they have some wonderful wines. The staff are well trained and friendly. The Pinot Gris is very smooth and refreshing but hard to get because it sells out so fast. The Merlot is a great BC Okanagan Valley classic and a good example of what the Oliver area can produce but needs to be aged to fully appreciate.

I have scanned the reviews before writing mine. Clearly some people did not enjoy their experience. My wife and I did. We spent two hours enjoying the view and the meal.
We ate inside as my wife does not enjoy outside dining. Scallops and a bread board to get us going. My wife ordered the steak and I ordered lamb (so we could share). The food was offered medium rare and we asked for medium. It was delivered as ordered. The meats were tender and slightly pink, the vegetables were varied and sufficient. All the hot foods (including the bread!) was served hot and not 'sitting on a serving tray for a while lukewarm'.
When ordering, I specifically asked to have the meal delayed after the starters so we could enjoy our conversation, the wine and the view. Not only did that happen, but we were kept abreast of where our food was in the plating order to let us know we hadn't been forgotten.
Our Finnish server Ingela (sp?), with fewer customers due to COVID, had time to speak with us, and made our experience even better.
The meal was not inexpensive. The wine might have been less expensive coming from the basement, but in the context of the overall experience was acceptable and perfectly paired to our food.
To those who did not have a good experience, I would only recommend you try again. People do have off days and the staff seem eager to make things right.
My wife and I during 49 years of marriage and travel have eaten numerous five star meals on every continent. This meal, including service and surroundings is now firmly within our top five meals ever and we didn't need a plane to get here.

The only saving grace here is their stunning view/setting. After a complete tasting, we struggled to find a wine we felt was worth our purchase. We ended up spending nearly $750 at two other wineries in the area....Black Hills and Road 13 instead and glad we did.

Before going for dinner, we had booked a wine tasting and it did not disappoint! Our host, Steve, was very knowledgeable and could answer all our questions. We got to taste five wines each and we walked away with bottles and an appreciation of their quality products.
The building itself, which includes a restaurant snd a guest house, is classy and blends well with its surroundings.
Well worth the visit!!

Went to the tasting room and enjoyed tastes of some fine wines.
Carried on into the restaurant, three of us shared a platter and the other had a burger. Platter was a wonderful mixture of meats ,cheeses, mustards relishes and olives, very good. Burger was greatly enjoyed.
Strangely enough, to my mind anyway, none of the wines that we tasted were offered by the glass. We enjoyed our wine, but pricing seemed a little high,
Would we return? Most definitely, beautiful setting, nice restaurant , good service

We stopped into the Burrowing Owl Estate Winery, even with Covid-19 restrictions and physical distancing they were able to deliver a very enjoyable wine tasting. The views from the winery are truly beautiful. If your in Oliver BC make this one of your must see wineries.

This was our first visit to Burrowing Owl Estate Winery, but it won’t be our last. We did not have time for a meal, but thoroughly enjoyed our wine tasting. The tasting fees are donated to a burrowing owl conservation organization, which we appreciate. And my fave BC Chardonnay is from this winery: mellow, oaky, buttery and delicious. We also enjoyed the port-fortified wine (La Coruja) and the Syrah — so much that we sent a case of wine home for later enjoyment. If possible, give yourself a little time to soak up the Sonoran desert vibes here in Oliver, so different from further north in the Okanagan. Highly recommended

We booked a private tasting tour and when we arrived were greeted by our guide Tamsin. Turns out our tour was with another group, but we were only 5 people total and the other group was very friendly. They both work in hospitality so were more knowledgeable than my husband and I but they were great and patient with us.

We wandered out to the gazebo where we drank a glass of wine and Tamsin gave us a history of the area and the winery. Once we were done, we walked back to the fireside lounge and tasted another 6 wines. I'm not a fan of reds, but once we hit that Coruja I was in LOVE. It was a perfectly sweet dessert wine and I needed a bottle to take home.

After the tasting, we went down to the cellar and saw the barrels upon barrels of oak. I would totally go back and take another tour with more tasting. 😉

Lunch in late Fall on a sunny Friday afternoon. Only 3 couples, spaced along the panorama windows allowed for amazing service! The chef (Quebec, French, Classic) was truly gifted and the wine pairings were unforgettable. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
