Turning off the paved highway we continue along a 17 km gravel road passing through the historic mining town of Sandon, before heading up a narrow winding forest service road climbing through cool. forested lower elevations into alpine meadows & eventually onto Silver Ridge itself at an elevation of 2000m (6562 feet).. mountain hike
Jul 2019 • Couples
We were told to take the shuttle up the mountain and then hike to the top. We arrive just in time to catch the afternoon shuttle and met John, the owner. He drove us to the parking lot and then told us he would meet us part way up the trail as he had to move the van to another parking area. Driving up was unbelievable, single lane dirt road with lots of switch backs. He also took time to slow down so we could get great photos.
After setting out on the hike we met John near the top of the mountain and as we hiked down a different path he pointed out lots of beautiful sites, flowers and told us about seeing bears the day before.
I would not recommend driving this road by yourself and John's charges are very reasonable and he is highly qualified.

Incredible views

The shuttle is a easy and stress free way to get to the hiking start point as parking spots are very limited.

We go up to Idaho peak every year but we can't find any information on if the trail is now open as its been closed due to fires. Anyone?

Excellent service
Aug 2017 • Solo
This service takes all the worry out of getting to the top of Idaho peak. The driver doubles as a guide, escorting passengers to the top and back down. He is dog friendly, with kennels for your pet. He also can accommodate bicyclists wanting to get to the top.
And he does a run later in the day so that you can see the moon rise.

The Views!
Aug 2017 • Family
The view from the mountain top is amazing. The road though is extremely narrow and steep so we opted to take the more relaxing way to the top and paid for the shuttle. The drive was great and the vehicle very clean and comfortable.

Mountain Biking Idaho Peak the easy way
Aug 2017 • Family
We had a great day thanks to John's shuttle up Idaho Peak. He made sure to warn us that the views were subpar due to the smoky conditions, but agreed that the biking would be fine. He gave us detailed instructions on which trails to use to mountain bike back down to Sandon and then New Denver. I am used to BC forestry roads, but this one is pretty narrow and can be very busy. After seeing the tiny size of the main parking lot, I was especially glad we didnt try to drive up!

Amazing adventure
Aug 2016 • Friends
John Matthews and his van are the #1 thing to do in New Denver. We had so much fun with him today. His knowledge of the area, combined with his wit and charm, make this truly an unforgettable experience. The hike to Idaho Peak wasn't bad given we are semi in-shape, older individuals. The ride up could have been a nightmare had we tried it on our own. The views, breathtaking. You won't be disappointed.

Don't even think about driving yourself!
Aug 2016 • Solo
I've used the new shuttle several times over the summer. John is the perfect person to run this much needed service. He's a professional driver so safety is a non issue. He's unfailing courteous to other drivers who are frequently white knuckled as the road is tricky. Best of all, he clearly loves his job and his lighthearted yet knowledgeable manner makes everyone's outing memorable. Please come back next summer!

Experience of a Lifetime
Jul 2016 • Friends
Wonderful shuttle ride up to the the base parking lot with John, your shuttle driver extraordinaire! From there a short, not too challenging hike up to the top of the world. Although you could drive up yourself why not relax and let someone with wonderful driving skills and a great personality drive you there and back...unless you like driving up scary, narrow roads with switchbacks! An exhilarating experience you won't forget!
