We drove over fifty miles to have a trip on Lough Neagh on the Maid of Antrim. We had checked the website. Supposedly it was running every hour on a Sunday from 12 noon. When we arrived there are no signs or indications of a boat of a y sort. We asked at the cafe they didn't know. They suggested we ask at the caravan site. They didn't know either! They did have a poster on the wall with 2 phone numbers on. The first on was not available. The mobile number was. When I asked if The boat was running the gentleman said no, not this year come back next year! Be warned phone up before you go ! The correct number is 07969927098

Our day out on the Maid of Antrim was brilliant. OK as shown by another reviewer the seats in the back lounge hadn't been painted but so what - we were there to enjoy the journey and the sights, not to inspect the décor (and if they paint the seats someone will complain about paint on their clothes). Conn and Linda were very welcoming, made sure the elderly (me for example) got on safely and we set off from Ballyronan. Tea or juice and biscuits were served and extra helpings were offered. Conn Law not only drove the boat but gave a comment on everything we could sea and on Lough Neagh generally. We went through the lock at Toome and got a short history of the canal, road and railway bridges as well as Toome, Lough Beg and the Lower Bann in general. Our tour included a walk through Portglenone Wood with an expert guide while Linda and a couple of helpers cooked a terrific barbecue for us - good choice and very generous helpings. The return journey as far as Toome was in bright sunshine so we could sit on the outer deck and watch the herons and kingfishers pointed out by Conn. As we reached Lough Neagh Linda came to the outer deck and told us the waves would come in shortly. There was no sign of any high waves but within about 30 seconds we would have got soaked. All in all a terrific day out and thoroughly recommended to anyone organising a group outing. Not relevant to the trip but followers of motor cycle sport may wish to know that the owner if the same Con Law who won the TT and Manx Grand Prix in the 1980s. Unfortunately the trips to Portglenone Wood or Coney Island are available only to groups, though if the group is small they sometimes allow individuals to come. Otherwise their only outings are on Sundays from Antrim.

We were greeted by very pleasant staff, but we were shocked how deteriorated it had become. Toilets were disgusting and everywhere needed painted. There was a small bar/kitchen/diner on bottom deck. However we had BBQ on Coney Island which was excellent apart from lack of something to drink! If it got a good lick of paint and provided water or diluting juice with BBQ I would have had no hesitation in giving better rating.

I was tasked with organising our annual day out for 25 of our Ladies Probus members. In the afternoon we had a beautiful trip on Lough Neagh with Colin Law on the Maid of Antrim starting from Antrim Marina.. First of all we had an excellent hot buffet meal before we set off. Colin gave a very informative commentary as we sailed down the Lough past Shanes Castle and the river Maine, then across the Lough to Langford Lodge and Aldergrove and back to Antrim. Our trip was crowned with beautiful weather. This was a private trip and we were able to choose the route. but I understand that there are regular trips at the weekend from different locatons and routes We highly recommend it.
