I would like to warn people who have never been there like us. Be careful with the high tide!!! It does come in quickly, and when you realise it could be too late for you to go back!

We were enjoying the long beach walk with our dogs. Although we read about the high tide, knew what time the high tide was, we just carried on walking towards Ramsgate as the tide was still low. Then we noticed that the tide was coming in closer so decided to go back. However, on the way back, some parts were already under the sea water, knee high hence we had to carry our dogs in our arms. If we were 10 mins late to return, we couldn’t carry our dogs and could have been completely cut off! It could have been worse 😱

We wish there were some warning signs on the beach to remind people about the high tide. We didn’t see any signs!

The beach was a long sandy natural unspoiled beach. There were many people with dogs. We really enjoyed our walk with our dogs, and so they did.

Roughly half way between Broadstairs and Ramsgate you come to Dumpton Gap. We had walked from Broadstairs along the beach but by the time we got to the gap the tide was coming in and so we had to go above the beach to finish our walk to Ramsgate. We were sad not to be able to continue as it looked a lovely sandy beach. At the bottom of the slope as we headed upwards there was a café which looked very popular.

Dumpton Gap beach is a yellow sand bay framed by chalk cliffs, with a small (seasonal) cafe, some rather basic toilets and a few beach huts. On a sunny day at low tide it is heaven. Mid way between Broadstairs and Ramsgate, at low tide you can walk from one to the other on golden sand twixt cliffs and rock pools, and from Louisa Bay near Broadstairs to the start of Ramsgate Main Sands the beach is dog friendly all day and all year round. When the tide is in, the walk along the clifftop lawns and through George VI Park is great too. Consequently, Dumpton Gap beach and the cafe with its terrace on the promenade are great for families for whom a day at the beach without their four legged friend is no fun at all. Thanet dog owners seem a very friendly and responsible bunch, the beach and the area when we have been has been very clean, and the tide washes the beach twice a day. It really is great to have a dog friendly beach in a nice location, with amenities and cliff top parking. The only warning is that the path down from the cliff top is very steep. However, there is a flat walk along the promenade from Broadstairs.

My family and I very much enjoyed the time spent at this lovely bay. Very easy to park, although the walk down to and up from the bay is steep it's worth it. Great cafe, food and beverages are good. We didn't come across one unfriendly dog infact our children enjoyed playing with them. Perfect bay to visit if you want to escape the hustle of Viking bay. We can't wait to go back.

A lovely small bay reached by a rather steep road or a walk along the beach at low tide. One of the few places where you can run your dog all year. A superb, friendly refreshment kiosk provides a range of snacks, meals and drinks.

Down a steep slope from the road, where toilets can be found, you come across Dumpton Gap, a mere half a mile or so from Broadstairs.
A good expanse of sand, with rocks at low tide, and some attractive cliffs, it is beautiful. A decent café lies on the promenade, and at anything other than low tide you can walk along the sand to Viking Bay. Great for the dog, where none of the restrictions you experience at Viking Bay apply during the high season (clean up after your pooch though). At high tide a wide promenade allows a sometimes bracing walk to Broadstairs.
We have done that walk many, many times and never tire of it!

beautiful bay, ideal for all ages. One of the smaller beaches. OK amenities. Not an ideal pathway between Ramsgate and Broadstairs due to tide, don't get caught out. Shame about dog owners that are unable to sensibly control dogs, should be some sort of dog restriction to reflect other bays.

Free parking on the road. Walk down ramp to the dog friendly beach at Dumpton Gap. Toilets and cafe facilities available. If the tide is out you can walk on the beach with your dog to Broadstairs. Once close to Broadstairs dogs must be put on a lead. You can also walk from Dumpton Gap to Ramsgate along the top road and coastal path.

Dog friendly was a bit off putting for us but the smell of the onions drew me in , Had a sausage baguette with onions and it was superb , Quite a choice for such a tucked away place only the locals and dog owners know it . Unsure of the opening times as of the nearby toilets . Free parking up at the top ,beware of steep uneven slope to get to the little café,
