Small aquarium with Koi pool (fish food dispenser takes 50p pieces). We spent about 40 mins in total here.

We loved that we could take our dog in with us.

Unsuitable for prams.

This aquarium is really sweet and unique, a good collection of fish and turtles. The petrifying well is also unique how it turns things to stone. Don’t expect lots and lots of fish here as it’s only a few rooms but for the price of £3.30, you cannot really grumble, it’s such a reasonable fee.

The aquarium is actually in an old Victorian swimming baths and I love how they have converted the old pool into a huge koi carp pond. You can just imagine it how it used to be, a lot of the original features still exist. Really worth going to when going to Matlock Bath! I recommend!

We're regular visitors when kids were small and have many happy memories.
This was the first visit in a few years (a request from a teenager to boot!) and was still very enjoyable. Pleasing to notice that very little had changed.
It's not a big place so it doesn't take long to go around, but only costs only £3.80 per person so great value.
Still lots to see though with fish galore (obviously) but also the petrifying well, holograms, mineral display and Matlock history as well.
Loved the African Dwarf frogs - about the size of your thumb!
Well worth a look if you're in the area, it's certainly unique!

Dead turtle is still alive and well 👍🏻
We drove 2 hours from Bromsgrove to see the dead turtle and we were not disappointed.
Sat under a scary mask type thing with laser eyes , we presumed he’d been zapped for venturing too close. His legs looked a bit gammy and grey but that’s what 5 years of decomposition does to you.

Holograms were astounding, not since I was 5 have I been so entranced. We walked round 5 times , well I say walk, I am in a wheelchair and struggled to see them in their true beauty.

Final high point was having to pay 10 bob to feed their fish after they followed us around mouthing ‘what’ ‘what’ ‘what’ I think they are mourning the loss of the turtle.

I’d happily have paid £15 to come round here.

Loved walking ( rolling) through the arcade with 2426 children smelling of anger and chips

A day visit to the area, this was a little stop off as we was walking past. Nice little quirky attraction. Nothing extravagant, but for £3.80 per adult, you can’t really complain. Think half an hour is plenty for here.

As part of a coach tour we were left in Matlock Bath for two and a half hours. On a cold drizzly day in December not the best place to be. Walking from the coach park to the pond and back only took 1/2 hour so we were stuck for something to do.
We happened to notice the aquarium and thought the £3 -80p entry was worth it to get out of the drizzle. We really enjoyed looking at the many types of fish in tanks and the monsters in the original old bath. Many of the other exhibits were also very different.

Accidentally came across this after our trip to The Heights of Abraham.
A great place for both adults and children.
The Aquarium had some amazing fishes and there was an interesting exhibit of the ‘petrified well’.
The original naturally heated Victorian swimming pool is now filled with Carp and you are able to feed them via the 50p fish food dispensers.
The children loved to do this!
Upstairs there was a gallery with some amazing hologram pictures and a display of pottery featuring Derbyshire themes.
A great, reasonably priced addition for a family day out to The Heights of Abraham and Matlock in general.
Definitely recommend.

Good to explore when passing by. Very small but nonetheless interesting. Entrance fee reflects the fact it only takes a short time to go round. Definitely not somewhere to go for a day out but worth a visit

This is an unpretentious exhibition, with an impressive and informative aquarium (a number of large tanks with exotic fish) and, most impressively, the former bath itself now restored and turned into a massive pond of koi carp. I learned so much about carp, where they're from, how they are bred and protected, and so on. Especially great for kids, as there's food on hand to feed these huge fish.

The hologram display was a bit old hat and boring, but it's the fish that stole the visit, plus the interesting info about this historic building..

Very interesting and well worth a visit. Very reasonbly priced, clean and well organised. Kids loved feeding the Koi, holograms were good too, we also enjoyed the other fish too, very interesting as used to be the local swim baths, would recommend a visit.
