Nice for a change to see what is left of nature and how the land of this earth should be. Warning it is incredibly busy with people every 10 metres so one star has been deducted.
I question why people bring dogs to the limited places where nature is left.
The one problem is as you enter the park there are a few felled trees. This is not acceptable for obvious reasons. There are enough different animals to look after the habitat without humans mucking it up. The rotting wood is also vital for beetles and many other organisms.
It is great news that wolves have settled in the Veluwe. To those against the wolves, I ask what is the purpose of your life? What is so special about your life that you deserve whereas the wolf does not? How did your family settle where they are? Wolves where here most likely before your family settled in your hometown. Experts say without enough predators such as wolves, humans are more in contact with animals such as bats and rats resulting in the current Coronavirus and many pandemics prior. Thus you welcome the next pandemic with open hands, do not complain then!

Some of the reviews here are for Hoge Veluwe. Veluwezoom is nearby and very different. The soil and vegetation are similar but the South is hilly, alpine by Dutch standards. We had lovely views over rolling hills, covered in purple heather. The visitor centre near Rheden is very modern and has good maps, picnic area, playground (and restaurant, which we didn't try).

Got up early and drove from Amsterdam to Rheden to see the heather blooming...
It was so worth it to get up at 05.30 ... to jump in my car and just go! The heather blooms just a short period and therefore I had to see it now... it was just spectacular!!! And.... nobody except me maybe 3 more people with camera's to enjoy the beautiful moment. Beautiful forest around it too and very much worth a visit.... actually the whole year round, but very happy I could come today... purple purple purple everywhere ....felt double lucky since I spotted 2 wild pigs as well....a bit non Dutch feeling in this area since its not as flat as a pancake but there is a bit of a different level.... and when you are Dutch you could very easy call them 'Hills'.... please forgive us....a beautiful beautiful day in Rheden!

a lot of different paths, you can meet people on bicycles or on horses. Overall, peace and quiet, wonderful landscapes especially on the moors.

The National Park the Veluwezoom is magnificent and offers some of the most beautiful scenery for biking (and hiking) in the Netherlands. A bit less famous than the neighboring national park the Hoge Veluwe, but more scenic. And, no crowds and no entrance fees. Don't miss the area near the Posbank.

We went twice to this park during our week's stay at Landal Coldenhove. We used 1 free white bike and hired a tandem (10 Euros) so our 5year old son could cycle too.
We took a picnic and cycled for miles and miles through the quite amazing forest scenery one minute and African plane style scenery with natural sand the next.
The underground museum is fascinating and worth a visit too and there was a farmers market there during our weekend visit.
Well worth a visit.

Last year we visited Arnhem, Netherlands as part of a drive through Germany and the Netherlands. Arnhem itself is an interesting stop due to its WWII role during the Allied invasion. Canadians in particular are treated as honoured guests due to their role in liberating Arnhem.
However, our trip had a different focus. We arrived and found that it was a Monday, and as in many places, most tourist spots were closed. We were staying outside of the city in Rheden a lovely forested area. Our hotel was Sandton Hotel de Roskam. It is a spa destination and conference center, so we had a four star stay for a three star price. I highly recommend it both for it's luxurious rooms, elegant restaurant and friendly staff.
Not knowing what to do with most places closed, we were told by the helpful desk personnel that we were right next to the National Park Veluwezoom. Most of our travelling in Europe is urban- cities, towns, villages. So, we decided to see what a national park would be like in the Netherlands.
What an unexpected treat. We spent most of the day walking through the heather over gentle hills of great beauty. The park was crisscrossed by bike, walking and riding trails of different lengths. There were clear signposts and maps along the trails and occasionally benches, especially at high overlooks. The trails were extensive, but not overwhelming and ordinary shoes were fine. There is a great coffee house at a high point where we enjoyed coffee, a delicious bakery treat and an outdoor patio with a beautiful view. The cafe itself has an architectural motif that blends in with its surroundings with the use of stone, wood and glass. There is also a small horticultural garden near the parking area. If you're in the area, spend anywhere from an hour to a day to try something different.

Clean and well-conserved national park. We hired bikes and cycled around the forests. We didn't see many animals though.

National PArk Veluwezoom offers it all. Hiking, Biking and horseback riding. Currently the heath is beautiful purple, the forest is still green but the autumn is sneaking into the colors. Beautiful sights of the sanddunes.

Celebrating our 4th anniversary just south of this National park Veluwezoom we decided to see for ourselves if Posbank really offered the acclaimed one of the most beautiful views in Netherlands. It did!
Ofcourse the wheather - sunny and warm- did help and picking this weekend end of August did the trick. Because the 5,5 km trail we followed from the Natuurmonumenten office at Rheden took us for a large part through the heaths with blooming and flourishing purple heather. To me it was especially very enchanting at the border of the wood from where it seemed suddenly a wall of heather came up. Up till now I had seen heath as an outstretched area - Holland is a flat country ofcourse. And now, it was there like a mountain of heather! Some wild horses grazing there in the green valley just made it perfect for the citygirl that I am. The warning to keep 25 m form the wild horses had scared me a bit, but it was all so sweet and warm and calm and beautiful... I kept my 6 yr old daughter close to me just to be sure and she too was amazed by what we experienced.
The Veluwezoom is hilly and the path we followed (the black one from Natuurmonumenten) was sometimes steep, sometimes narrow, some high steps and not at all adviseable to do with a stroller (as we did). Nonetheless we spent a beautiful day at this park and upon returning I immediately decided to join Natuurmonumenten as a sponsor because we do need to invest to preserve this wonderful area for our next generations.

Anyone know how much an electric scooter is to hire please?

It would be 20 to 25 EUR for 2 to 2,5 hours and for 4 hours double that. Full day is from 57,50 to 75 euro depending on day of the week and where you rent it.
An electric bicycle would be a lot cheaper and just as much fun 😉

You can take your dog everywhere as long as it is on a leash. This is to protect the wildlife and the horses and cows that are walking around there.
Also there are some designated areas where you can let them walk around freely in those places. These are marked and can also be found on the park map
